One of the 1st look of FC3 tailer.
Luv'd FC1 and hated FC2. Back to a tropical island in FC3.

The main protagonist and antagonist already annoy the heck out of me.

I hope that's not the kind of music to expect in the game (we probably should expect it since Brian Tyler is the composer for this project). We've already got too much of that loud, pulsating dreck.

Loved FC2, lol. Can't wait for this one.

This will be a day 1 buy for me also.

Far Cry 3 is going to be very, very tempting for me. I'll probably wait for a sale, but this is one game that I would love to play right away. Wish I could rent PC games lol.

Here is an earlier E3 2011 game play demo

Just remembered why I hated FC2...too much driving around, over and over again.

I feel the same way. But you can turn off the music and trailers don't give you any idea of what it is like to actually play the game.

Well you could walk instead.

Far Cry 2 - Quite possibly the greatest gaming disappointment ever. Even if you used a cheat to disable weapon degradation the game just felt completely off. I have been tempted at times to reinstall it but I keep remembering the game pretty much sucked, didn't it? It was drive up on hut or site, or be ambushed in the middle of the night by angry dudes shooting at you from the bushes where you couldn't see them...

.....

I do however have high hopes for Far Cry 3.

For me it just felt like GTA in Africa...never like GTA either. FC1 was more of a FPS "adventure" game and FC2 was a great let down for me. Only thing great about FC2 was I used it for benchmarking.

ADD: in FC1 I felt connected/invested in the character but not in FC2. I just didn't care about the FC2 character in the game at all. No attachment.

I also hated having to drive everywhere because, honestly, the environment was so utterly boring. No caves to explore, no cool things to do....it was literally just them being able to say "YOU CAN DRIVE ANYWHERE...OVER MILES AND MILES AND MILES of barren, uninteresting terrain".....

As for benchmarking....from memory the game wasn't nearly as taxing as folks were expecting it to be, no? Like FarCry 1 with its HDR patch crushed rigs for years, but Far cry 2 came out when most peoples hardware hit 50+fps no?

For benchies I was just looking at the min frames which at times can/would drop to low teens even with some really high end vid cards and rigs. Also to test for missing textures that was with some vid cards/drivers.

I could see how if one doesn't like GTA that they wouldn't like FC2. The sequel sure had it's shortcomings but what game doesn't? I liked FC1 a lot too but I also thought it was too linear. Open yes, but still linear. Kind of like Crysis. FC2 spoke to me because it was super open world and I LOVE that! My friends and I talk about FC2 a lot and it's funny to see how people look at it. People either love it or hate it. Those that don't like it usually just don't 'get it' imo. The environment is bland with nothing to find but FC1 and Crysis were the exact same way. At least in FC2 you had diamonds to find and other scattered goodies. Anyway, I'm don't want to come off as a defensive fanboy and I do acknowledge that it was not perfect. That I know but I still like the game and keep it installed.

All I hope is that FC3 isn't super linear again but at the same time not too boring for other people.

I just wish FC2 had coop option. Playin games like dead island coop, made the game so much better

Omg, yes! Even if it was just two player. Wow, it would be epic awesome!

There is a new Far Cry 3 trailer that is replete with those stupid drone sounds that make it into almost every game and movie trailer these days. Gameplay should be good though, and that is what's important.

Day 1 purchase. Nuff said.

The hang glider alone sold me on this game.

I enjoyed Far Cry 2. I agree the driving was too repetitive. Nothing like running into a group of bad guys, killing them, then running into them again when you drove back through their base 30 minutes later. But, overall I had fun with it.

My only gripe were the guns. Every gun was mirrored!

Mirrored?

Yes. Every gun was mirrored right to left. The bolts, ejection ports, and any usable parts would be on the left side of the gun. It was very hard to not notice this once you spot it.

Far Cry 2 remains the only game I grew so bored with I never went back.....correction, the only FPS. I've played some CRAPPY FPS's...but man I usually finish them, but FC2 was just so massive I realized...."So I'm gonna drive....get ambushed....drive some more...through endless plains of grass...then I'm gonna shoot at guys and my gun will jam or break after 20 shots......"

I think I got a trainer that allowed the guns to never break down and that made it mildly more fun to play, but I just got bored......I'm tempted to fire it up again...but I know...I'll be bored

Obviously not everyone liked FC2 for one reason or another but I noticed that many mention something on these lines frequently. It shows clearly that not enough time was put into it (and I understand that it shouldn't really...) for it to get much better. Once you find the guns (or combo) that you prefer, you spend diamonds on upgrading them. You'll find that they won't jam as often. Although some just do more than others such as the m11. Also, getting the stealth suit helps a lot with dealing with the AI. I really like the game but can point out it has shortcomings. The constant patrols and checkpoints being one of them.

If you still have the game and are early in the game with out much money... search for a golden AK. There are several in the game. Basically, it's a fully upgraded AK that you just find for free. The one I usually use is extremely easy to find and it last me the whole game before it starts to get rusty and jam. Great gun.
