No SSD
Anywhere from 64GB up to >4TB internally
Anywhere from Zero to 8TB of Networked storage
Running WMC or WMC+Media Browser as the frontend
Streaming HD Audio
Micro-ATX in size
Bluray drive
Wired network
120-450 watt PSU
OTA tuner device
$400-$800 in price
No gaming at all
Life expectancy of 2-5 years

BTW --- Someone else can do this the next time or find a better way. No way I am ever doing this again.

Interesting... I guess I missed that poll. My 4 year old HTPC is comparable to the poll results, still running strong. Using it as a server to my new (Assassin approved) HTPC in the theater room now.

Bump.

Just want to make sure the results are seen.
Thanks for the bump. I'm slightly out of the average as I have no blu-ray drive in my HTPC. It is in my PC so I can comfortably rip my BD's at my desk. I have an SSD But no optical drive in my HTPC and have more storage space than average.

Thanks for the results. Looking forward to the Q2 survey

Interesting stuff assassin - but have those users chosen ATI cards because it has been proven beyond reasonable doubt, that they provide a superior picture to the rest.
This would be easy to compile if the minds could agree on the questions.
I think Demographics would be cool to see as well. When I say demographics, I'm talking about race, income level, do you have paytv available and do you use it. etc. etc. etc.

Who is building/buying what and why so to speak.

I'm an analyst by trade and do this all day. The initial set up could be a pain BUT the resulting Pivot tables and Charts would rock and you would be able to break them down in damn near any fashion you wanted.

(This is not to be misinterpreted as an outright volunteer action on my part talk to me closer to "go time.")

Sounds great. I will send you a PM in a few months and we can do this again.

No way I am ever doing this again by hand.

Ha! Hilarious!

For multiple choice questions like this, it is pretty easy to setup a Google Doc Spreadsheet with a web form frontend. The results are automatically saved into the spreadsheet so it is easy to manipulate.

I'd say the SSD option will increase for two reason. One reason is that HDD are high and SSD prices are becoming reasonable. Another reason is that once you try a SSD you'll want them in all your PCs (as a boot OS drive).

Interesting results (sorry for bumping the original thread, I hadn't seen this one). I'm a bit surprised to see how unpopular MyMovies is. I love it.
Nice job.

Lots of work to confirm something you probably could guess accurately.
Just a bump - too much work went into this to languish.

Looking forward to an updated poll if its worthwhile. My current HTPC closely matches the average AVS HTPC. I'm certain that the SSD percentage has gone up more than any other number (save maybe RAM) since the original poll.
