The best speaker in that price range is the PSB Image T6.
I bought them a year ago for my new 2nd home, and they are wonderful; nearly as good as the $4300 Vandersteen 3A speakers I have at my other house.
Stereophile tested them and said they were their new "reference" speaker for under $2000, and The Absolute Sound picked them in a feature article as the speaker for their "Editor's Choice" Recommended System (stereo) for $3600.
There isn't anything I have heard in that price range that even comes close. They compete with speakers that cost over $2000.
The Cherry finish is also very nice; hard to tell it from real wood veneer.
Of course you are aware of the Carnival 8 speakers, which are only $700/pair, but they are not in the same class as the T6. The Mezzo 8 is almost as good as the T6, but sells for a lot more money.

I am looking for a set of towers and I am in no rush. I would love to focus on a set of speakers with clear crisp highs and midrange. Tweeters or horns, but I want the best for the money! I was suggested ARX's before, I am also looking at a set of Mordaunt Short Mezzo 6's or 8's, but I doubt I will ever get to hear these before I buy them. Also looking for a wood type finish. Again, I will most likely not get to hear most brands suggested, so I kind of have to live off of member reviews. Suggestions? Thanks ya'll.
