If you guys haven't seen this four-part series, you should really check out. The final part just came out today and it is fantastic.

Take it with a BIG grain of salt. Ideas are STILL free, it's just that you need to come up with your own, and you actually have to work very hard to come up with ones that are worth much. The problem today is that everyone wants to take the ideas (or the products that resulted from those ideas) that others worked hard to create. These types of documentaries, though I'm sure well intentioned, tend to try to make into a big gray area what is pretty clearly black and white. Anyone who thinks that we have less innovation today because of copyright and patents allow people to protect their work, obviously never lived in the previous world. And anyone who thinks that the massive theft going on today isn't hurting innovation is delusional really.

There is a HUGE gap between the fact that all new ideas build on what came before them, and what is going on today. And there's way too many people trying to rationalize this into being some sort of good thing, when it's anything but.

I'll just say that I encourage those who have enough salt left after reading Dean's posts to watch the series for themselves.
