Some years ago, Sony considered changing their iconic logo. After much debate and consideration, they realized the best route was staying with the one that is instantly recognized worldwide.

If the AVS logo must change, how about just adding a yellow letter "S" to the current "AV", followed by the word "forum"?

I'm not thrilled with any of the three choices given here, but if I had to choose, it would be #1.

Please don't use #3. It makes my head hurt!

#1 but please don't use Huddler for the upgrade because it will kill this forum.

Don't believe me, go on over to hometheaterforum dot com and see for yourself. It's the most un-user friendly piece of garbage ever and has slowly killed membership there.

Letter spacing is very important in logos.

Logo 1 looks best, but I think the spacing between the V and S needs a slight reduction. Also, the spacing between the FORUM letters seems too wide, I would widen those letters a bit to reduce the gaps. The top left corner of the F in Forum does not seem to be in the best position, I'd move it a little left or right and see if it flows a little better, or maybe the letters in FORUM are just a bit too tall.

I think the first, which I voted for, is a little old school. The second and third are more futuristic (for lack of a better word), but they can easily be misread. The third one could almost be read "NSF." Which in the banking world stands for "Non-Sufficient Funds."

Which may have been a funny tongue in cheek meaning for how the forum members feel, but probably not what AVS is going after.

I like logo 3, but the colored bars in logo 2. If three had those bars it would be very cutting edge to me and work well. Logo 1 is nice, but very pre 2012.

Kerning is very important with logos or any printed text. I think there's a bit of spacing issues with all the logo's, but pretty cool nonetheless.

+1 on items 1 and 2.

I voted for #1, but I'm not thrilled with any of the 3 choices. To me, the current logo is fine. I don't like that the word "Science" is being dropped; kind of degrades the forum's status as a more "scientific" form over others.

In the end though, content matters much more to me than any logo.

After designing a few logos myself, I realized that you must consider how it will look in two tones. T-shirts, hats, emblems, silkscreening, all those things come into play. And if your logo isn't instantly recognizable in one or 2 colors, then you're not done designing yet. Number 1 is the closest, but you're still relying on the RGB color pattern, which isn't bad, but maybe think about how it would look if you tried to silkscreen or print it with only 4 colors, which is still quite a lot. Good work though, it's a positive step forward.

We will soon see if this is really a democratic process because it looks like #1 is the clear winner with little hope of #2 & #3, catching up, unless the design logo options start again because the poll gave an unsatisfactory and unexpected result.

Get rid of the italics & loosen the font spacing along the word "forum" to run under the entire length of AVSF. -- AVSF font's good, but play around with another similar font for the word, forum.

Other than that, the other three don't cut it for me... So much more potential there -- IF you're going to change it.

Is anyone reading these comments? There are certainly enough people who have "voted" for the "write-in candidate" (option 0, ie, don't change the logo at all) that the poll should be re-done after adding this as an official choice.

I strongly urge the organizers to reconsider the need to change this at all, especially if the successor will be one of those three.

If you put a gun to my head I woud settle for #1

But in the absence of any such inducement, I won't vote in this poll at all since the existing logo is better than all of them.

Agreed I didn't vote either. I understand how hard it is to come up with an original logo. Its VERY hard no matter what the armchair critics like myself have to say in critiquing.
As I said earlier put up a logo challenge thread...name a prize ... and see what else comes in. If this was done and the results were this...either make another one and try for more viewers ...or just hire someone. It truly wouldn't cost much when you consider the branding is for a VERY known site.

I like #1 the best, but I do think Est.1995 should be added. Maybe add that and take away the word "Forum".

I don't quite understand what is so mind blowing about changing the AVS logo...If it was establish in 1995, it's only 17 years old and it's not like it's was craved in stone by our founding fathers centuries ago! Now if this logo came from an original magazine, like the old Stereo Review, then maybe I could understand a little more about not changing it.
