AVS Blockbuster Deals thread

Looks like Blockbuster is closing another round of stores.

One location near me was on the list.

Used blu-rays going for $2.00 or so. Picked up 8 titles.

Not a lot left, but still enough to choose from. For anyone in the St. Louis, MO area - the Fenton store is closing.

The one in Melbourne, FL is also closing. Only 10 days left. I bought several over the past month+. Latest - I got The International, The Day the Earth Stood still, Edge of Darkness, and 12 movies in all for $12. $1 each!!

I liked BB. I will miss them.

Here in Killa Cali in da OC, the Cerritos and Fountain Valley Blockbusters are closing down.
Blu discs now down to 1.50!

This thread will be dedicated to discussing regional/local blockbuster deals...esp. those associated with closing/liquidations of your local blockbuster.
I wish there was an easy way to find out if a local Blockbuster is closing. I haven't seen any list that wasn't a store number list only... which makes it tough to decipher if your local store is on that list.

I went to the 'store closing' sale at my local BB in hollywood (sunset/virgil) a week ago and it was laughable. Pre-viewed Blu's were basically all $14.99ea -10% off! The 5-for-$20 deal (or 4 for $20) was all dead, I even asked about it and they said 'no'.

It makes me think this store closing is being handled by a independent liquidator, where they give the appearance of closeout deals when in actuality there's no deals to be had (like during the circuit city closing days).

I went again today (a week later) and all the $14.99 used blu's are now a whopping 30% off (so $10.50). Uh huh.

The sign said there were 39 days to go, so I'm guessing they're taking it real SLOW. You guys with the $2 and $1 deals, how many days were left on the store opening? Looks like one guy about said 10 days were left at his store. I'm guessing at this rate, I'll probably go back in a month, lol.

A store in my area had received a lot of the Blockbuster Mail service discs. These were Blu-ray's in sleeves only but for $1.50 per disc (if bought in multiples of 5), I couldn't resist picking up 15 of them.

Block Buster in St Paul on Grand ave is long gone, matter of fact I do not see any around anymore here

Yeah, the one I was at today had the mailer sleeve blu's for, wait for it, $9.99ea

Again, I'll have to wait a month I guess...

The local store near me will be selling everything next month starting on March 5th. I will post back then on what kind of stuff they have. I like the sound of $1.50 Blu-ray's, but I am one of those people that sort of need the case and cover art.

I went to the next closest BB in Glendale and it was closing too. Same deal, meaning; no deals yet. Most USED blu's around $9.99ea, some were $7.99, but those $7.99 ones were the same blu's you coulda got on the 4 or 5pc for $20 deal a little while back. So prices are higher on the closeout than before

Seems to be a liquidator also. Guess I'll check back in a few weeks

They are disappearing here on the East Coast a lot. Closed down the store closest to us (20 minutes away) and shipped all stock to the next closest place (30 minutes away in a different town) last year. Now that store is closing and moving to a store on the other side of town (now 50 minutes away). But at least they had all discs, blu and dvd at $4.99. Simple sleeved DVD's at $2.99. Managed to pick up 7 blu's and a friend also picked up 6 new blu's...

I will miss them. My wife and I don't have steaming capabliities, so we relied on the local BB and mom & pop rental shops...now all gone... sigh..

Yeah, I read just a few days ago where about 500 more stores are about to be closed:

I'm guessing they will close all stores this year.

I live in Los Angeles, east side of hollywood (silverlake), so a typical dense area. 3 of the closest stores are closed or closing. There use to be a store 1 block away 3 years ago and when that store was there the next closest store was only 1.5 miles away!

Now it appears the next closest store that hasn't posted 'closing' signs is about 6 miles away.

I've never rented from BB, but I've been going and snapping up the 4 or 5 blu's for $20 deals (and the one luck labor day deal when they were only $1ea blu's!).

I'm seeing 5 for $20 in the DC Metro area. Decent prices on newer (but not all that popular) and catalog retail Blu-Ray titles as well with many being $8-$10.

Last week for the Cerritos CA BB closing down.

4 dollar blu rays!
Just saw a couple of Blockbuster stores closing in the Madison, Wisconsin area. Prices vary per store. One had previewed Blu Rays at $2.99 (2801 E Washington Ave.). The other had them at $9.99 (5413 Monona Drive).

New Blu Rays were discounted up to 60%. But the selection was small.
My local store in Prattville, AL is closing down. Blu-rays were $10. Not that great of a selection, but I did manage to pick up some out of print BDs as well as a couple that haven't dipped below $20 yet.

I wish that mine was like that. Mine is doing 50% off of $14.99 or $9.99 on all the used stuff. New stuff is only 20% off, and there isn't anything that recent.

I did manage to get a decent haul last night though.

Disturbia
Hot Rod
Priest
Source Code
Fright Night
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Dorian Gray
Clash of the Titans
Lonesome Dave
The Girl who kicked the Hornets Nest
The Girl who played with Fire
The Girl with the Dragon tattoo
The social network
The crazies
Beastly
Limitless

And with tax and buying new cases for all of them, they cost me around $5.89 a piece.
Where are you buying BD cases?

TIA,

GM

San Antonio BB located at 281 & Evans will start their store closing sale this Monday, April 16.
My local store in Prattville, AL is down to every used Blu-ray for $3.90. Not too bad. I picked up around 21 movies, 12 of them being in sleeves, which they are selling 3 for $5.
And now they are down to $1.99 or less. I picked up 55 blu-rays last night for $88 out the door.
I went back yesterday at lunch and got another 21 of them, and its a good thing too, because somebody just went in and cleaned them out. They bought all of their blu-rays, which was probably 200 - 400 disks. I am guessing they will soon be on ebay. lol.

Well, they have over 1000 stores in the US, so I doubt they'll be closing them all.
I don't like to purchase the rental discs because they lack special features. The oversized case they are in looks like $4!t if you ask me. But for a few dollars per disc, I suppose it is a good deal.
No sign of my local BB closing here in Jackson MI. But they do always have the 4 and 5 for $20 deals going on.
I worked at a Blockbuster that closed this year. We found out a month before we were closing. Coporate would have us lower the price once each week. The last week had the best prices but there wasn't much left of blu rays .
I didn't buy any of them that said rental on the disc because they have no special features. I think they are closing all the stores. Our store was doing well and the lease was up Coporate didn't want to renew the lease.
Whatever doesn't sell they will ship to another store that is closing. I picked up 25 blu ray for a pretty good deal. I think the last week of the sale they were about $4

.

You can replace them with empty BD-cases, the cover is the right size.

Don't know if it's nationwide or not, but my local Blockbuster has hundreds (literally) of pre-viewed DVDs & Blu-rays @ 5 for $10. Yup, $2 per. There were many newer (relatively) BD titles. Off of the top of my head, Limitless, Unknown, The Grey, Source Code, Warrior, Hugo, Captain America, Hangover II, Black Swan, Chronicle...

Bought 50 & will return when I have more time biggrin.gif
