thank the Blu-ray gods!...maybe Bird had a change of heart after receiving a lot of flak about the issue...although would they have enough time to add this in 1 month before release?

Good. Damn right!

Hmm... now what do we talk about?

The shifting at helps lower your Theta count during the viewing the movie.

I saw it in 2.35 and noticed a distinct lack of "clarity".

Why Ving Rhames wasn't on the team?

Was Mikael Blomkvist pretending to be Kurt Hendricks or was it the other way around?

When it comes to stewed prunes, are three enough or is four too many?

Hmmm. The Bits didn't get their info from the horse's mouth, least it doesn't look that way ("thanks to reader Juan P"). I've sent an email to them to see what's what.

A 'sudden shift' (heh) to releasing an SAR version would be impossible to create from scratch with just a month's lead time, so it was either: that way all along and Bird simply didn't understand what the tweeters were on about (seems unlikely, given his alleged replies); or some folks have been having an epic troll at the expense of us poor nerds.

I hope it's not the latter.

"Trust the 'bits' now?"

Since when were they not trustworthy? Did I miss something?

Why d'ya quote me? I'm the one who's sent them an email instead of simply saying "Ghost Protocol has got the IMAX scenes after all. Phew!".

All four alien movies have been restored and have new state of the art transfers

Because you rightly doubted them

Bill Hunt is very respected so I definitely would trust his sources...but I would trust him more on this if his source was named Brad B. and not Juan P.

I'm leaning towards Paramount always had shifting aspect ratios and Brad was just misinformed...after all they have a Special Feature dedicated to shooting in IMAX and the Burj Khalifa scenes look stunning

Not anymore, he had cried wolf and bought into PR way too often

Brad Bird's latest tweet regardind this issue is as follows: "My point: if I "intented" to have everyone view MIGP that way I would've relased it in 1.85 and letterboxed the scope scenes"

...Now...after looking at amazon's preorder page, they say it's 1.85. I know amazon's specs are not exactly trustworthy but OAR (except for the IMAX scenes of course) for MIGP is 2.35:1 right?
It was 2.35.

Please let's not make this thread about Bill Hunt...accept the info or don't

Relax, there's no way in hell the whole shebang is going to be 1.85:1. Just Amazon upholding their proud tradition of absurdist specs.

I'm in the constant height group and am glad it's been cleared up now. 2.35:1 all the way through. Excellent!

Bummer. The scene in Dubai where they knock out the window and he walks over and looks down was one of the best in the movie... and in 2:35 it's gonna look kinda lame.

CIH be dammed in this case, we're supposed to be about the art form, not cheering our setups.

I also think Brad might not be aware of the cultish subset of AV nerds out there that want to lynch him now. ;-)

Yay !! its very annoying on dark knight.

as seinfeld said in the SNL jeopardy skit about oprah:
"shes fat shes thin shes fat shes thin....pick an aspect ratio & go with it."

That's funny, I thought it was pretty much official when I asked my contact at Paramount and put the info here on this thread quite awhile back.

Still a bummer. I would have preferred to have the option for a shifting aspect ratio. Maybe the "Big Screen" edition of TF2 didn't sell the numbers they were hoping for, but I was scratching my head as to why they chose Wal-Mart for their release market on that one.

yes we should have listened to you in the first place...Bill Hunt's confusing statement muddied the waters...I guess I was just looking for some hope that they would release a true IMAX version
