What's the measured frequency response of Onkyo's sub test tone?

As most are aware, when you go into setup, you can set the level of the sub by emitting a tone. Has anyone measured the lowest corner of that tone? Does it go lower than 20hz or does it drop off?

Is it the same for all Onkyo products? I have a 3007, and 805 and a 706.

Yea, I think its safe, I have not read of the test tones damaging any speakers so far. But running full range test tones at faily high levels with very limited paper weight mains and centers would scare me abit..

I would think it's some sort of test tone with multiple frequencies, so it may be hard to pin that down.

I don't know the Onkyo products internal test tone. Does it use a sweep tone or pink noise (kinda of like a sssh sound)? Most that use pink noise for the sub the frequencies are usually ~40-80hz, if they use much below 40hz it is very easy to pick up other noises in the house such as HVAC or noise from the street. Again, I'm not sure what Onkyo uses but I doubt it goes below 20hz.

That makes a lot of sense that certain common noises in a house could throw it off, and the range they use takes that into account.

I thought a big selling point of audyssey XT was sub eq. How can it do a decent job of sub eq if it only goes down to 40Hz?

There is probably a difference between the manual setup test tones (band-limited pink noise) and the sweep tones of Audyssey.

There are clearly two types of test tones used by the onkyo 3007.. The Audyssey auto setup uses a pulsing / clicking tone. The manual test tone seems to be the standard type, pink or white noise. They do sound very different.. I have played 20hz test tone though the sub, none of the onkyo test tones rumble like the 20hz test tone, this is by ear.

The Audyssey tone does go down to 20Hz but very briefly as it is a series of quick sweeps. I have not measured the pink noise tones.

Internal testtones: 40-80 Hz for the sub and 500-2000 Hz for the satellites.
