Need advice where to put dropamp

I need a dropamp as I have a loss of a few HD stations. When I connect the cable directly to the TV, the stations come in, however the 8 way splitter is killing them.

The current setup is: at the point of entry the cable is split to two and one cable is run about 65 feet to the modem, the other cable is run about 65 feet to a distribution closet. Because of the vaulted ceilings, there is no way to logically rerun the cables, so the existing runs cannot change. In the distribution closet, the cable goes to an eight-way splitter. The cables from the eight-way splitter then feed each TV in the house.

Assuming I am going to use an Electroline amp, would I get better results by putting a 1 port drop amp (EDA 2100) at the POE just after the split for the modem/TV, or replacing the eight-way splitter with an 8 port FT amp (FT08300) after the modem/TV split and the 65 foot run?

With 15dB gain on the 2100 amp, you come about about the same (~10-11dB loss at the splitter) as you would with the 8-port amp, but you have the advantage of being ahead of the 65' of cable (which is a few dB). If you can power the amp at the point of entry, just after the cable modem split, I'd go with that. But either way is probably a decent plan.

Definitely put a standard drop amp on the TV distribution leg of the 2-way splitter and have it run the 65' to the 8-way splitter. Putting an 8-out drop amp at the end of that 65' run will cost you ~3.7dB of signal at the input of the amp. While the signal strength at the outlets would be the same either way, putting an 8-out drop amp at the end of that 65' run will lower your Signal to Noise Ratio (the higher the SNR, the better).

If you don't have power at the 2-way splitter, you can always use a power inserter and power it from where the 8-way splitter is.

Thank you Ed and Jeff. I will put the amp at the 2 way splitter. I do have power there so it should be pretty easy.

Next question - I had intended on going with an EDA2100, but then ran across the EDA-FT 100. Both seem to have the same 15 db gain, same noise factor, and same frequency response. There is an negligible cost difference. Other than the cost and the size, what is the difference between the two?

The description indicates that the 2100 has improved surge protection, but the spec sheet is identical for both. It seems to me that, other than the housing, they are identical.
