Does anyone else dislike the TNT broadcast of Nascar. A. Alexander is just horrible, over enunciating every other word with his [fake??] southern drawl. Pitching the stars and social media constantly.. I'm probably in the minority, but I liked Bill Weber much better. Mike Joy was also doing some of the same things on Fox this past year. Manny Yocum is still solid...
Kyle has gotten better, and Larry Mac is always insightful, he should be in the Booth... Picture quality, at least on Cox Cable has def. taken a step backward, fair to poor at best.... Direc Tv looks and sounds better.....

I can agree on what your talking about A Alexander, i rather hear John Roberts (Nascar Raceday) in Alexander's spot.
"Johnny" Roberts would also be better than AA.... Just don't bring "Toyota" Wallace with him, he nauseates me...

The best days of race announcing are long over. In the good old days when we had Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons calling the races there was intelligent and humorous banter. These days the commercialism comes through loud and clear. frown.gif.

TNT broadcasting is horrible. FOX does such a great job and the both the booth crew and the ground crew are so much better. The interaction, the chemistry, the technology--it all just seems to work on FOX. For better or worse, those guys at least seem *excited* about the race--maybe almost too much. But instead of just calling the action, they call it like an enthralled fan would, and it makes it personal. The TNT crew sounds like they're reading the race off a paper rather than seeing it live. Kyle Petty is salvageable but that's about it. The ESPN/ABC team is not much better (although Alan Bestwick as the main booth announcer is a good call).

I'll have points up sometime tomorrow, did anyone see this?
I watched the race and don't even have to read that article to be in complete agreement with it. You even had the announcers kissing the sponsors butts the whole race, 1/4 of my screen was ads, a little monitor would pop up to show commercials, and then they'd leave the race for more commercials. I'm about done with NASCAR and this rediculousness.

Are you listening Rick Hendrick, Richard Childress, Jack Rousch? You're losing your dedicated fans!

Please tell me the Daytona race was the last one on TNT this year. mad.gif

Here's another good article on the same site:

http://www.sbnation.com/nascar/2012/7/6/3140859/nascar-bruton-smith-caution-flag-reaction-2012

Personally, between all the commercials and phony debris flags to "improve the competition" and with most of the position changes happening in the pit stalls instead of on the track, I'd prefer them to take the "Sprint Cup" name literally and go back to a true "sprint" heat racing format like Supercross is now and like NASCAR used to be in the 50's. That way they could run heats of about 10 cars and about 30 laps long without any interruptions then do a crapload of commercials between the heats.

At least that way NASCAR would be an actual car race again instead of a Pit Crew Competition masquerading as a car race.

Raul Malo should sing The National Anthem at every sporting event. He was great at the Brickyard 400!!

I agree. I really loved that trio. Why didn't ESPN bring back Jenkins?
Jenkins works on the indy car series and has since espn lost nascar the first time. Also I believe he was planning to take some time off because his wife is very ill.

I think espn's coverage was very good this weekend even if the racing was not

IIRC, the IRL was broadcast by ABC/ESPN. I think they decided to go with the much inferior Paul Page.

Paul Page does NHRA for ESPN.

The ABC IRL Announcers are Marty Reid, Scott Goodyear, Eddie Cheever

Really sad to hear about the folks getting hit by lightning in the parking lot at Pocono yesterday. Been to races where rain like that comes and it's scary just standing under the metal grandstand waiting for it to end.

Good to see Jeffy luck into a win though, he's had nothing but bad luck this year. Very surprised to see JJ take people out too, he's usually better than that.

Man! What a wild finish! You have to love Brad for not assigning any blame to Marcos, just "Whoowee! That's racin'!" That was about the most exciting last lap of a road race I have ever seen.
Noticed from the silence coming from Kyle that he probably didn't care for the result. I don't care that he didn't like it though, that was a fun last lap to watch, probably the best of the year.
Quite a few drivers complained that there was an oil-down which caused Dale jr, Gordon, Busch to spin. I forget who said it, but the oil may have come from Kyle's car. No doubt a wild finish though.

I believe it was Labonte's car.

Being a road racing fan, I think the two Nascar road races are usually the two most must see auto races of the year.

^^^

that was ONE SCARY crash the 55 had today... eek.gif not just the actual impaction, but those crashes where the car comes to an absolute stop when it hits the wall like that are rarely good...

the guardrail going through kubica's rally car came to mind... mark is one lucky boy right now... 6 inches farther forward, and today may have been a very bad day...
