File support is limited.

I should be able to play "Playon"...since this is a DLNA device. mad.gif

I've had the new firmware loaded since it came out, and the player has been fine. So it can't be the firmware. I'll post back after I talk with Panasonic.

UPDATE. After talking to a Panasonic tech today, Netflix is working again. She had me do a reset of the player, by pushing a series of buttons on the remote. Nothing else did any good. I'm not talking about the arrow left, right, etc. This was something different. It made the player lose all the settings though, so I had to re-do those.

I've been looking to upgrade my blu-ray player to one to has wifi built-in. 3D is a bonus but not a must. I also really like that the Panasonics support SD cards. How is the Panasonic DMP-BDT220?
I have been reading through a lot of the old posts about settings, and I am just getting confused. I am trying to set the 220 so that it doesn't fiddle with the video--I want the image to come through exactly as on disc--and so that the audio passes straight through. Can someone either fill me on what settings to use, or point me to a past post with this information?

Also, for anyone wondering about the "Mode Not Supported" error that I posted about a few days ago, I exchange the player and the new one works fine, so it looks like the old player was in fact defective.

Just a thought on returning a bd player after you have set it up for Netflix.... It might just work for the person that gets it refurbed/used if you don't log out...

Anyone know how to reset the Netflix account on one of these? What a boon if you did not already have an account.

On a side note, do you think any of the Panasonic engineers have ever used a Roku box? The interface on this player is much slicker than my old 65, but the performance is still the same... Klunky, slow, balky, at least it didn't stutter during play. The Roku is still light years ahead.

If they put a BD player in a Roku, I may buy one.

Maybe not so much. The Roku's UI performance is much smoother, but these BD players simply play video better than a Roku. Compared side-by-side, you'll see less posterization and pull-down jerkiness than on a Roku; the BDT220/320/500s can also output Netflix at 24p, something very few other platforms can do. The Roku's UI is a little behind in terms of features; the BD player's Netflix player has search with people name matching and television episode browsing by season. (Of course the Roku now has a top-level search tool which will tell you which of 5 or 6 different services--Netflix, VUDU, Amazon, Hulu, Crackle, etc--has a given title).

I still pretty much use my Roku exclusively for Netflix, though smile.gif.

Panasonic does need to do some work with the Netflix UI at least on the BT500. Not sure about the other models.

We went from a previous Panasonic, needed the dual HDMI out, and the previous model Netflix UI far superior.

The best and more practical way to use the BT500's is to go on-line via my laptop and add Netflix movies or TV shows to my queue.

As it is the navigating of options, movies, etc., is very cumbersome.

Yes, of course, you're right. However, the BDT 500 is a top notched BD player with excellent BD play back performance available at unbeatable prices. That's what the Panasonic engineers designed it for. It does look as though they threw in Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, etc. to make it appealing to the masses. If you want a better Netflix player get a Roku. Furthermore, if Roku had a built-in a BD player, the BDT 500 would be light years ahead in BD performance.

I wonder what UI that was? The one that's on these BD players is one that Netflix has largely standardized on--I have five devices which run it (PS3, Sony BDP-S390, Panasonic DMP-BDT220, DMP-BDT110 and TiVo Premiere). It does respond slowly on these Panasonic BD players--it's much snappier on the PS3 and Sony BDP. Other than being more responsive, the Roku 2's Netflix UI is in no way superior.

My problem with the Panasonic is the speed of the interface, it was terribly slow. I do have a Roku, mostly because it does not pause and buffer or just stop like the old players did. I should have said user experience is light years ahead because of the slowness.

This is a return, so I suppose that the slowness could be why it was returned, but I did not buy it for Netflix. My tv (Panasonic) has it, as does the ps3 and Roku attached to the receiver. My toaster for whatever reason does not.

OK, what is up with the DLNA player? I set up to stream from my Windows 8 PC. It won't play any video file other than an Apple trailer I downloaded. It sees my mkv file but when I try to play it says "cannot play file." My Samsung 6900 blu ray player streams mkv files fine. But they have their own "PC Share Manager" software to stream to the player. Anyone have any luck with this. I spent hours online looking for answers.

I had the same problem with my DMP-BDT220. It would not play any of my MKV files regardless of what was in the container! Using Tversity from a Win 7 machine, the player wouldn't play anything . I set up a share and connected to it and the DMP-BDT220 played most of the files just fine. On one or two with AAC audio in the container, it would not play any sound. IIRC, AAC is one of the supported formats. Compared to my OPPO 103 and Sony BDP S790 the Panny seems a bit flaky for DLNA, to say the least. I just gave up on it. I would like to be able to use it, if anyone has any ideas on this, please let us know.

Is it a file size thing on the videos? I know a lot of players can't go over 2g.
The 220 will play up to 12 gig files from a network share... the same file will give an error through the DLNA server (Tversity, but I have tried Windows media as well).
It seems that beyond about 12 gig I get lots of stuttering, but that may be the wireless here. Although it connects at the same speed as the Oppo 103 (according to the router (405/450 rx/tx) , which will play those files without any problems.

Hi, I tried to ask in a different thread but did not get any response, maybe I will have more luck here
When playing a CD and pressing a number on the remote, like 5 or 6, I would expect the player to jump to the track with this number, as with other CD or DVD players that I had, but it does not happen. Is it normal? If yes, it is a very incovenient thing, and probably could be corrected by firmware.
I also have problem with a USB HDD 500 MB PQI, most of the times after connecting the Panny says either no USB device connected or incompatible USB disc, I am going to try a solution by Shaka from a different forum:
"Problem solved! Last night I disconnected everything from the unit, including the power cable, and left it like this overnight.
Re-connected everything back and it now detects the USB and plays all media from it."
Like good old times with Windows computer tongue.gif
It may have something to do with HDD power supply, perhaps different discs have different requirements? HDD did not start immediately even after plugging into Yamaha AVR.

I purchased Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Player in September from Amazon and found out in the first week that it had problems when playing "Inception" on blu-ray.

It has pixilation and freezing problems in several scenes and when it happens it skips. This happens only for “Incpetion” blu-ray. I called Panasonic support and they said there was nothing they could do. They said they had no reports of that problem and they might or might not be able to release a firmware to correct it in the future.

Unfortunately, I was too lazy to return the blu-ray and thought I would wait for a fix but I haven’t seen any other complaints about this issue. Am I stuck with a bad unit? Thank you for your advice.

Are you sure the disk isn't damaged?
Hi,

Yes, I have an older blu-ray player and the disk plays perfectly on that one. In addition I rented the disk from Netflix and that one was even worse.

Regards

I have the 220 and own inception on blu ray. I did not notice an issue during playback. May try a few scenes later. At what points in the film did you note the problem?

Has anyone had problems getting HD audio (DTS-MA, etc.) to bitstream to an AVR properly with the 220?

I've set the "Secondary Audio" setting to OFF in the BDP setup, and have the HDMI output settings set to "bitstream", but whenever I choose the DTS-MA track of a BR, I get no audio... Changing the output to PCM will work, but I just don't understand why this workaround is necessary.

Does your AVR indicate that it's receiving DTS-HD MA? What is your AVR?

Yes the Netflix disks often are. I've only played a couple disks in the player and the last Netflix disk skipped twice, once from a scratch and the other from a big thumb smudge. Shame on me for not checking before I put it in.

This player eventually goes on, but my older Panasonic would get held up, seemingly for ever, so that's an improvement.

I have inception and will try it if you can tell us where it skips.

More about external HDD. I use PQI 500 GB, 2.5", USB-powered. Player's USB slot says 5 V/500mA, possibly to little to start the HDD, therefore buzzing in HDD after plugging in. Sometimes is finally starts and then works well. I wonder it is possible to use an active USB hub, with external power supply. If it will work with the player? Connection via the hub is not the same as direct. Has anybody tried that?

I just purchased the DMP-BDT220 this weekend. Purpose: I have a HDD with movies with MKV, avi, and mpg2 extension that I wanted to play on the blu-ray player via USB. My HDD has an external power source and USB (prob. 2.0) connection.

I have an older LG blu-ray player that accesses this drive and plays all of these files without a problem.

When I plugged in the USB cable and turned on the HDD, I could find the movie title, but they would not play. I checked the player specs and it appeared to support MKV and MPEG-2 files.

Any idea why I cannot play these? Do they need to convert to a different format?

Also, when I use the DLNA function the movies are green. Any idea how to overcome this?

Finally, it is dificult to find a player certified as DIVX ready. Is DIVX format being replaced?

Thanks,
RW

I recently bought a 320 and haven't been able to get the Viera Link stuff working with my ET5 TV. I have Viera Link turned on. When I press the Viera Link button on the TV's remote, I see Player listed.

But, I can't control the player with the TV's remote. Sometimes the play, pause, and other buttons at the bottom work when a title is playing. But, none of the buttons work to select a menu option or anything else.

Panasonic's support has been no help. The email I received said that you can't use the TV remote to control the player. I guess the support person didn't read their own ads.

The manuals for the TV and player are pretty bad. So, I may just be overlooking something. Does anyone have any tips or ideas?

Thanks.

The AVR is the Denon AVR-1713, and it doesn't report that its receiving DTS-HD MA... When I'm bitstreaming, I get no audio and no lights come on on the front of the amp.

I was actually on that device's owners thread previously, and batpig's general point was that the SOURCE was the issue, not the AVR. Hence my post here...

I'm at a lost for what the problem can be. You seem to have the audio settings correct. The fact that it can output PCM means that it's getting a bitstream from the disc that it can recognize and process internally. When I choose the DTS-HD MA track from a disc that what my AVR shows that it's getting and I haven't heard your specific complaint before. If you play a disc with a Dolby TrueHD track do you get that at your AVR?

You can get these USB extensions that come with two two connectors, one of which is a power only jumper to augment the power feed on the normal signal line:

You could then try connecting the power/signal to the front and the jumper to the Skype socket on the back of the 220 (I'm sure it provides the same power as standard USB). Obviously you'd need a cable with a longer jumper than shown above.

Alternatively, you might be able to use one of those USB charger wall warts and connect the jumper to that?
