They are currently available for pre-order from the Panasonic web site for those retail prices and they show that they will ship in February.

There is no specs yet, wonder if the new 230 will have a web browser. Costco has the 220 for 78 bucks , not sure if there is anything else really different between the models.

Good evening.

I noticed that Costco has the 220 on sale and I was thinking of picking one up.

My question is, what is the difference between the 220CP and the 220? I notice that the one that Costco is selling is the 220CP.

Thanks for the info.

Nothing player wise. Just a way of marking the version for Costco. Costco version comes with an HDMI cable.

According to the info at Audioholics

The BDT230 is the direct successor to the 2012 BDT220, which features built-in Wi-Fi, 2D-3D conversion, a web browser with pointer cursor, and Panasonic’s proprietary IPTV platform, VIERA Connect.

The looks between them are certainly different. I don't like the shape of the newer one, but at least it doesn't have a flip down door that covers the entire front(it looks like only part of it). And I like that the eject and power buttons aren't at opposite ends either.
Plus I figure with the new Display Mirroring feature I would be able to use with my next cellphone if/when I upgrade later this year

Don't need a web browser in my BDP and display mirroring--meh. What else you got? Nothing that we can see at this point. It's interesting that their PR indicates that they're not replacing the BDT500 (or BBT01, but who cares); presumably they'll update its firmware to match.

Looks like last years Sony BDP-s590.

Doess anyone know which thread is for getting technical help on the BDT-220? This thread seems to have a lot about sales of the next model- is this the shopping thread?
This is the thread for technical issues. Post your issue here, or use the search function in thhe thread to see if anyone has discussed your technical issue before.

The BDT-330 does get dual HDMI outputs and 4K upscaling. For only $200 that is a great price point for dual HDMI outputs. I need to pick up a second 3D BD player anyway so I figure I might as well get the newest model. But I'll get the BDT-230 since I don't need dual HDMI outputs. Although I have no idea if I will actually use the mirroring tech but at least it will be an option. I'll just move my BDT-220 to a secondary location.

I just purchased a BDT220.
Does anyone know what will be resolved in the next firmware update? I'm trying to get that information from Panasonic, but they keep giving standard answers.
I hope for:
- dlna streaming divx (the older player DMP BD75 played divx, so why doesn't my BDT220 play those?)
- resolve the random freezes on divx playing directly from network.
Divx will not be added. It hasn't been support since the 75/85/300/350. They did not pay the licensing fee for US players. Only available on EU and Canadian players. Doubtful new players will have it, either.

I have a BDT210 and am looking to upgrade to a 220 (just returned an Oppo BDP-103 because for the money, I just wasn't that impressed).

Big deals for me are:

1. Amazon HD streaming was poor with the 210. I hear the 220 is much better so that is a huge plus for me.
2. My 210 is noisy. Can't really tell if that was resolved with the 220 because there are mixed reports.
3. File navigation for music on USB thumb drives or external HDDs; I have a 750 Gig drive plugged into my 210 and although it works fine, the navigation stinks. I can only 'arrow up' and 'arrow down' to get to the songs I want. Does the 220 let you navigate by artist, album, genre, etc., or is the navigation the same as the 210? I have most of my files in one folder because the 210 only lets you do random playback within a folder.

Thanks!!!

Amazon streaming is fine but it is limited to stereo with the BDT-220. My BDT-220 seems quiet in my environment. I have not tried any external drives with my BDT-220.
Hopefully the new X30 series will support 5.1 audio on Amazon.

Thank you. I am a two-channel guy so I am cool with that.

I downloaded the manual, but just like the 210, nothing is mentioned regarding music file navigation. Perhaps that is because there is none.

I have all music files stored on a Synology NAS and play them with Onkyo PR-SC5508P or the Panasonic DMP-BDT220. You can navigate through the folders with the browser on the 220. I make folders and group all my files in reference to genre and codec (FLAC, MP3 and WMA Lossless) then use VUPlayer to create .m3u playlist which is saved to the NAS music playlist folder. Example, FLAC folder will have sub-folders of: NewAge, Classical, Rock, Country, etc. Just point VUPlayer to a folder or subfolder and it will create a playlist of all the titles, then save it as a .m3u playlist to the playlist folder, example FLAC-NewAge.M3U. In the 220 point it to that play list and it will play all the songs. Same for the 5508.

NOTE: The 220 will not play WMA Lossless

ADD:

You can use Windows to be a music server and it will show up in the 220, for XP you must have MP11 installed and have Media Sharing enabled. I am just starting with Windows 8 so will not be much help, never used Vista or 7.

My 220 is connected to my receiver via HDMI cable, but when I play CDs in it I can't access tracks directly using the number pad on the remote. The skip, pause, stop, play, etc. keys, however work fine. Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks in advance.
Music playback is very limited feature wise. That's about all you can do, skip, pause, play, etc. No album artwork.

Thank you very much for the suggestion.

However, if I understand you correctly, this is a NAS or other DLNA solution and can't be used with a USB thumb or HDD, correct? Or can I execute a playlist that is sitting on my USB HDD?
(I hope I'm posting this right! - Did a reply to the Thread Starter.)
I can't seem to get my BDT220 to login to Youtube. I use my full username (user)@gmail.com and (password) (all lowercase) and all I get is "authentication failed" from the BD player. Have any of you been successful at this? Does it bring up your playlists that you set from a computer? Thanks.

Sorry, I have never tried it with music files and a USB drive. Maybe I can test tomorrow night.

One quirk with video files and the 220, it will not play my .TS files connected via USB , if I copy them to the NAS drive they play fine. Translation is turned off on the NAS drive

Haven't seen this answer yet. I am wireless with my new Panasonic dmp-bdt220. I can get to the internet for apps just fine. My Android tablet (Jelly Bean, WIFI only) is on the same subnet. When I launch the Panasonic Remote App 2012, it thinks about it for a minute and tells me it can't find a device. I have the bdt220 set to remote enabled 'on'. I am connect to wireless, same subnet. Any ideas? thanks

No, it does not work like it does via DLNA. You can navigate to your music files and folders with music files and play them but it only recognizes the compatible music files in this mode.

A side note, I have not found any way to create a video playlist when playing videos via DLNA.

Serviio DLNA server supports video playlists (as well as music playlists too). I dont see any reason why it wouldnt work with your panasonic so long as it works with Serviio in general.

Place the playlist(s) in the top level directory or folder where you point the DLNA server too your videos

The playlist can then reference any video in any folder below that top level folder.

Playlists appear in a special category within Videos on your player.

Hi.. I just got a Panasonic DMP-BDT220P Blu-Ray player from Amazon.

Need to make it region free. I have a lot of Region B BluRay discs and its not playing .

I dont want to go through the firmware hacker website firmware info . They suck and very arrogant stubborn team. Idiots . I just spent one complete day in trying to register and every time I register, the account gets deleted without any notice. Im tired of this crap.

Is there any other way ?

I should have been more specific, there is no video playlist when using the Synology DS212j as the media server. In the Synology apps there is Plex Media Server and Video Station that I could use that would probably create video playlist but I never installed because the plan is to procure a real media player (PCH and/or Dune) in the near future. For Audio I want to be able to control, view playlist, play selections, etc. via my iPad so I do not have to use a video monitor. I can do this on the Onkyo PR-SC5508P but I hate the muting relay clicking between each song. I should be able to do this with a PCH A-400, the new Dunes are not on the market yet so they are a ?.

Don't bother streaming video to BD-220. it's absolutely rubbish since It's DLNA support does not quite work with Video. Panasonic support sucks on the basis that hey din't bother replying unless the answer is on the FAQ replies!

Actually I stream from my NAS edited CBS files (MPEG-2) and PBS files (MPEG-4) quite often via DLNA on the BDT220. The only complaint that I have is the motion control (reverse, FF, RW, etc.) is sluggish.
