Your Furnishing, Audio, Plasma Room Setup!

There is more than just a big Plasma to a room. I'd like to see how some of you folks did your room, the furniture, audio setups, how you control the lighting etc. Audio is just as important as the TV. It will give me and others idea's on how do do ours. I've seen Jason's setup and really like it.

There are 4 Samsung's in this room! Plasma, LED, notebook & cell.
A bit cluttered, but I spend most of the day in there on my computer, websites, photography, so everything gets heavy use.
The centerpiece is the Samsung PN59D550 with Kenwood Receiver & Speakers for Audio. I combine some of the
Samsung 5.1 Channel Blu-ray 3D Home Theater System and more powerful subwoofer with the Kenwood to get 7.1 effect.

This is facing the Plasma, my corner is on the left.

the two windows have alumn foil covering them, blinders & drapes.

In sig. I still use my own samsung htib gave me 5 years of great service its now used in the bedroom as my alarm clack 5.1 system )

The worst time for light is mid to late morning on sunny days. After 12 or so it gets much better and by the late afternoon/evening it is a non issue. The sun sets directly to the front of the house and this room is an addition off the back of the house.

Didn't you just (well few months ago) remodel your room/set up frolich? For some odd reason I remember it looking different Still though looks great!

Frohlick, unless my eyes deceive me, I see a Kinect near the ceiling..does it track good at that height? I may have to do the same thing soon.

The first picture thread I had (linked above) was just when I got new equipment. It wasn't a remodel. The second picture thread I have is where the picture above is from (and in my signature) This time we actually remodeled the room..well, had somebody remodel the room for us and I got new equipment in the process:-)

That is a kinect above the TV for the kids. It works fine but to be honest they don't use it that much. We have another TV room in the basement and that is where they like to hang out.

Thanks. 100% working man's DIY room.

You asked about lighting. I've got a 3 zone X-10 lighting system, finger-tip control from main chair. Most other questions can be answered scrolling through the pages on my sig link. Lots of updates over the last few years.

Jack (and anyone else with a 550 set) .... did you darken and foil that much out if necessity or taste?
I know the 550s are reflective but yowsers aluminium foil?

Well, it was extreme maybe, but those two windows are right behind the couch and there was light peeking through the blinds and drapes, so I used alumn for now until I get heavier, larger, darker drapes. End of problem.

Yes, this Plasma is very reflective, but also why the picture is so good once you eliminate the light.

I recommend you raise your main left/right Kenwood speakers off the floor a foot or so. Music will sound better.

Yeah, it is pretty "boomy" now with the subwoofer and those big speakers.

Frohlic, wow Looks amazing, Bravo great job. Have you thought about painting the speaker grills to blend into the wall color? That's what I did on my rear in walls and they look good.

No, they're not. They're the "old school" Nautilus 804 speakers. Thought about upgrading to the D series but decided I don't want to go down that rat hole with more money. Right now, I'm very pleased with the system and to me I would have to spend an exorbanent amount of money to achieve what I feel is an incremental increase....the whole diminishing returns thing. One thing I wish I had done was to get another N804 for my center and not picked up the N HTM1.

Wowhung...very impressive on the sound damping panels. Very rarely seen in Home Theater setups. Just curious as to why the two different Sub models?

That room has been years in the making along with taking a significant chunk out of my wallet. The room was first designed for audio with the HT aspect as a secondary consideration.

Regarding the subs, they're both Velodyne subs. The "smaller" one is a HGS15II and the larger one is a DD18. I bought the HGS15II before getting the DD18 and before the DD series was released. I got a smoking deal on the DD18 and decided to jump at it. I couldn't just let the HGS15II go to waste so I integrated it into the system. I have pics of the bass frequency response in the room and it's pretty close to ruler flat with both subs going.

How do you keep the light out? That window looks pretty bright.
