Axpona

Anyone attending the Stereophile-sponsored Axpona in FL?

Seems like a great place for AVS & AH members to meet.

B&W, KEF, DefTech, Linkwitz Orion, Paradigm, Martin Logan, MBL, Joseph Audio, Legacy Audio, Soundfield Audio, Vienna Acoustics, YG Acoustics will be there.

I did't see Salk, Philharmonic, Ascend, Revel, JBL, Aperion, or NHT on the list. Too bad since these are among the favorites around AVS & AH.

The cone is silent.
Depending on the list next year - maybe I will go. Their are
some interesting ones on this years list.

I don't believe Salk or DM will be represented, however, the other brands you listed might be there, though not necessarily as manufacturers.
IOW, an amplifier company might be there under their name, but using Revels or JBLs for their demo, which isn't always listed.
Then there are companies like Aerial, Audes, etc, etc. that you may not instantly recognize as speaker companies, unless you're in the biz or a true audio nut .
If anyone from AVS attends, make sure to introduce yourselves!

cheers,

AJ

Silent cones are good! Where can I find one?
You're probably a lot closer to LSAF, not too far down the road (calendar).

I'll see if my wife wants a little family Dallas trip that weekend so I can escape for a few hours.

We have friends & family in Dallas.

And it actually takes me 4 hrs to drive to Dallas, not 3.

Well, between you and RandyB, you probably already own half the speakers that will be there, so it won't be quite as enlightening as it would be for the rest who don't!
Hope to see you there.
Hmmm, no one from AVS going to Axpona?? There will be lots of speakers there at the audio jewelry expo!

cheers,

AJ

Hilarious.

I think no one's going because it's in florida.

Only retired people live there.

AVSers ain't retired yet. Audiocircle is that way --->

Sure, these type shows will draw more centenarians than iPoders, but you may have to save that long to afford some of the stuff.....like these.

Might have to sneak out to go hear them .

That's almost 9 feet tall, making it a true line source not a truncated line source.

I was reading in Floyd Toole's book that when it comes to surround speakers, line sources are ideal.

Only $22,000 for some sweet surrounds!

It must be the economy.

Seems like nothing is what it used to be.

Like my work place usually has all kinds of parties, especially during holidays. But for the last few years, very little.

Christmas just doesn't quite feel like Christmas.

New Years just doesn't quite feel like New Years.

I heard this year's CES didn't feel quite like CES before either.

Unfortunately, didn't get to hear these, or the Orion 4s, etc., as I was a one man operation.
However, Bob Carver was in my room Sunday, which was quite an honor for me, as I got to meet one of the greats in audio and play a few tracks for him. Very cool indeed.

cheers,

AJ

Some reviews on the Axpona:

Looks like AJ's Soundfield speakers were a big success.

Congrats!

AJ, is that just a basic stuffed U-Frame you're running now? What bandwidth do you get out of it?

For the show, yes. The original version had slots/holes in the first 1/3rd depth of the cabinet sides, for a more dipole radiation pattern of the 18. The rear 2/3rds was a sealed servo 12. By varying the 12's low-pass, I could create more/less cardioid radiation. Unfortunately, it weighed like 1000lbs. Not very portable/positionable without a crane. So damped U it was.

25-150hz.
