I'm really thinking about buying a pn51d7000 series plasma display but with the e series seemingly only a month away, would it be smart to wait? I'm looking to spend with current prices 1300+ on the d series do you think the e series will be able to be had at roughly the same price on the internet? The 2012 features do also sound awfully nice. Thanks.

Better go with the D series while you can still get them.

All the information coming out sounds like Samsung will only allow their higher end TV's to be sold at MSRP. That means you will have to pay substantially more and TBH, it doesn't sound like the 2012 Samsung's added that much compared to 2011.

I've now made the mistake of reading about the st50 which now makes me want to grab one of those panels LOL. Do what do you think about those prices? It looks as if they have made great strides over the st30.

Samsung's MAP for the PN51E7000 was lowered to $1499 recently. The E series will have a dual core processor in it, making apps run faster and smoother, be able to multi-task and also adds a web browser. According to Samsung, it will also have a 10% improvement in black levels over the 2011 line. It's up to you if these improvements are worth an extra $200.

If I can find a better deal than I'm currently seeing on the PN51D7000, I am going to pick one of those up. Otherwise I'll wait for the new Samsung and Panasonics to come out and hear some reviews on both of them. I'm curious how the improved brightness in Panasonics compare with the 2012 line of Samsung.

I've been following this thread for a bit now. I came from a Samsung HLP5063 DLP and was happy with it. I would still be watching it except it blew up and I'm not going to repair it again. I decided to take a deal instead of waiting for new fixed pricing. I was going to get a 6500 but Fry's was sold out. I picked up a 7000 at a good price. After fixing ( or greatly reducing the flashing black issue via firmware ) I'm happy with it. I do however notice something that I'm not sure is normal with Plasma. When the TV is on and especially with white on the screen, I notice a flicker in my peripheral vision. I do not see it when I look directly at it. Its kind of like a CRT flickering when set to something lower than 75Hz. Is this normal?

I can't find the review you are referring to by searching google. The only one I found is this here. Is it the same one you are talking about?

How do you find the brightness on the 7000? CNET called the 7000 PQ some of the best ever ? concur?

It brightness is great for me but I have the TV in a dark living room which gets very little light.

I have yet to hook up my HTPC to it ( which has my BlueRay & 1080p content ) . I've only watched standard DVD on it. So far, the picture seems on par with my DLP using the same xbox 360 DVD player. The blacks are much better compared to my DLP - which is to be expected. I'm eager to test out 1080p next week once I get everything connected.

Right now the d7000's and the e's are about the same price, on bountii dot com $1339 for the d and $1490 for the e but that includes glasses.
Obviously it would make senses to go for an e right now cost wise, but I keep thinking the d's will end up dropping in price, won't they?

I think you missed the best window to get them.

I guess if you keep looking hard enough you might find somewhere that has them on closeout but that could be a bit of time away.

Also, whoever asked the brightness on the D7000 is great. Picture looks great in my basement, even with the windows open during the day.

FYI the E7000 series will have the claw stand that D8000 has now....gross, get the D7000 unless you are mounting. Seriously eff that stand

I was seconds away from pulling the trigger on a PN51D7000 at Fry's and hesitated only because they had it calibrated so horribly yellow and dim. It looked terrible in the store, compared to the D8000s which looked amazing. I decided to double check reviews online, and it seems it was purely the store's fault, not the TV! Wonder if they did that on purpose?

That slight pause made me decide to just wait for the E series- hopefully they'll have fixed the black flashing issue too. Where do new TVs usually start to roll out?

Some stores have them now - check out onecall or use bountii dot com. How much was it at fry's? the e's are selling for $1490 including 2 glasses.

I ended up going with a pn51d6500 and absolutely love it. I just got 3d glasses and they work very well with the tv. Although now I am in the market for a new tv as I will be trading the panel for a kawasaki 500r.

Ive been looking at the pn51e6500 and the major differences between the pn51e7000 would be that the e6500 looses the "ultra slim" design, which ends up being only .3 inches from what I can tell and it also does not have the dual core processor thats included in the e7000. The dual core is not really a factor for me because I dont really use and of the built in apps.

When I do trade I will be pulling the trigger on the e6500 most likely because it inherits basically all of the features from the d8000 series unless I can find a great deal on the d6500 at that time.
