Read/Write EDID

I'm looking for software that I can use to:
1) Read EDID information from an HDMI source.
2) Edit the EDID information.
3) Output the updated EDID through the computer's HDMI output.

1 & 2 are pretty straight forward, so I really need something to do 3.

Is there any software out there that can do this?

EDIDs are read from sinks, not sources. EDID stands for Enhanced Display Identification Data.

EDID transmission is one way, from sink to source.

Hi Colm. I understand that, but I have an EDID capture device (HDMI detective) that I want to write to. I will then use that device to output the newly created EDID.

The device only has HDMI inputs/outputs. I'd like to output an EDID from a computer to emulate a signal that would come from a display that the device could capture.

Look at www.gefen.com. They have some EDID tools.

Unfortunately they don't have utilities that can update their HDMI Detective. I tried using PowerStrip to do this, but I got an error. I mentioned this to Gefen, and I have sent my unit back, and they will upgrade the firmware so that PowerStrip will work.

I've also found another product, in case anyone wants a simpler method of doing this. DR HDMI allows you to read from a source, and also has a utility where you can read/edit/write to the device. Works great.

It appears there's also a GNU/Linux utility that can write EDID's https://github.com/bulletmark/edid-rw
I stumbled upon it here:

Didn't experiment with it though.
