hi if you want an opinion from someone who actually has been using 2 ST1080s for 5 weeks now and also owns the HMZT1 check out my on going review . And be warned though my experiences have been positive as well as negative, but those experiences come from someone using a functioning ST1080 , two in fact , with none of the light bleed , grey is black or other issues reported . Currently I use one ST1080 without the light blocker so I can keep in touch with my surroundings , say type this sentence on my 30 inch monitor whilst looking through the ST1080 at a music video ... I am up to part 16 of my now 5 week review which you can find on thegameveda here . I make no apologies for murdering the Queens English in terms of spelling or grammar as being born in Merry olde England I have a divine right 2! Seriously if you want to check out how someone actually using the ST1080 with consoles , games , iPads , Tridef , Raspberry Pi etc check out my ongoing review. If you need to know anything just ask on this forum or find me on twitter.

I have made some video of Max Payne playing in Tridef 3D , 1080p on the ST1080 , in the review you will also find some 3D pics , HMZT1 owners ( I have owned 3 HMZT1s) can also check out at least how Max Payne plays in 3D just watch the youtube videos in top down format on your HMZT1 , and this goes for any ST1080 owners out there too .

here are some parting shots if you happen to be wearing your HMZT1 or ST1080 right now

Mr. thegameveda, YOU ARE NOT HELPING SMD to emphasize these positive opinions everywhere! Because when EVERY customer get his ST1080, he/she will ask one question: "Why mine doesn't work well like thegameveda's one? It must be a faulty one and when I contact SMD to replace it,I should finally get a perfect one like thegameveda gets."

I see recent reviewers start understand some ST1080 problems can't be resolve by replacement, and ready to use it with its defeat. But with your " two in fact , with none of the light bleed , grey is black or other issues reported" ,Who can live with a faulty one when somebody get a perfect one?

Mr. thegameveda - please do not bask in the glory of owning two custom made st1080s for u - if i were to test the units u have been shipped , then the verdict will be that they are with better panels [may be 4k2k] and better [custom ordered] optics ! - that is "made for the Mr. thegameveda" ONLY and u might have paid a fortune to get this or if related to SMD then probably got it for free/pittance !

it's u only who says st1080 is free from blurrs/lightbleed/grey-black - rest all are either reconciling with their choice[good/bad] or asking for refunds/replacement but sadly the replacements will be the same quality anyway just adding to more wait time of 5-6 months !

i have given up on st1080, just hoping that Sony announce the 1080 version of HMZ with portable design and battery added and refined optics this fall.

Even the cinemizer OLED will be better than the st1080 crap!

Guys! remember Sony / cinemizer are brands while SMD is a small ,unknown company - which lives on hype and may disappear off the radar any time !

What's sad is, even after so many months with new batches people still complain about how bad they are. Same issues, buzzing sound from headphones, blurry picture, light bleed and fitment issues. Nothing has even changed! I always figured thegameveda is just someone from Silicon Micro hyping up the product to get buyers. I honestly can't believe someone has 2 that have no problems, I call BS on it. I got 2 before and both had all the same issues. I am so happy I got a full refund and didn't get replacements.
I use my Sony HMZ and love it 1,000 times better and pray Sony makes another version that's portable.

even i have reached the same verdict - hmz vs st1080 , hmz is a winner since it's from a brand with mature technology with some optics/comfort issues of first generation product,SMD nobody knows them who they are !
the best part - HMZ can be modded whereas st1080 cannot !

i will buy the hmz-T2 which has the issues [with hmz-T1] resolved , st1080 is a no no from me since i doubted the panel quality from the start.

Hi,

Below my opinion on this hmd, and the message i've posted on their forum.

"Hi all,

After 2 weeks and a contact with support team, honestly, my best advice is not to buy this hmd.
The reasons :
- optics are bad (pieces parts are cheap)
- the haze (lights on the borders are normal and couldn't be corrected via a firmware update)

So, i hate saying bad on things but the fact is that if you're not about to make some structural modifications (what i'm about to do due to the next point...), don't even imagine watching a movie or a game with a great experience...

The refund is really expensive too, and it's really really bad (it's clearly a sting)...

It's not a finished product, and in my opinion it shouldn't be sold like...

Regards
(the best representation of the screen could be find here : http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=121&t=15100)"

That's pretty much how my 2 looked. These things are crap and I suggest never dealing with the company. They need to get their **** together and stop ripping customers off. The product is crap and their refund policy is total BS. A restocking fee for a crap product, heck no I said!

The ST1080 mimics a big screen TV. This is good for watching movies and playing existing video games not configured for a wide field of view. For this type, head tracking does not make much sense.
The second type tries to mimic your eyes wide field of view. This is similar to the IMAX dome theaters. This setup is terrible for movies and standard video games, but great for head tracking games designed for this display (or watching imax films designed for dome theaters).
The requirements of each are so vastly different, I don't think you will find one device that does both.

Hi

I'm sorry but what type of games are "Head Tracking Games" ?

I'm confused frown.gif

Thanks

it's sad - the HMD for consumers are not great - they are just prototypes and that too very bad ones at that !
HMZ has everything good but the ergonomics with very small exit pupil suck big time while st1080 is BS to say the least !

So i have decided to wait and enjoy my acer iconia w500 tab for movies / music etc - sadly for games there are no devices [read HMDs] to exploit computer gaming or console gaming!mad.gif

So gaming on HMDs will only be a distant dream!mad.gif

where are the guys @sony who'd designed glasstrons - they'd have done a great job designing the HMZ as HMZ-T2 is still design-wise A Failure designed by thoses who know nothing of HMD design mad.gif

So is this thing dead? Any updates? Everybody gave up on them?
I am sure most gave up. They were crap and horrible customer service. Read their forums on their site and even there numerous complain.

TBH, i work in retail. I own two Sony HMZ's and i knew the ST1080 would let people down. Because when you work in retail... if you have an amazing product... you dont' hide it. You go around showing it off (Like the Oculous guys are doing). You send out loads of free demo kits to the press and review sites. You get the great reviews then you rake in the money :P

Seeing how ST1080 makers where obviously not keen to let people review their product... from a retailer standpoint... the product has to be rubbish/ not as advertised.

Just my 5cents.
