I had a hum, I just used a cheater plug. Also an isolation transformer for cable may have worked.

Thanks. I ended up getting the XLS 1500. Got it up and running. So far I have not noticed any humming or hissing. It's a little rough around the edges, but it gets plenty loud, has no problem driving my 4 speakers and sounds good. The ability to set a high pass filter on this amp is also a nice feature.

If I need an amp for the Yamaha RX-A3000 presence speakers would I be better off with an Amp 102 or Onkyo M-282 or would it make a difference?

UPDATE:
I figured I'd compare this XLS 1500 to AudioSource 310, so I ordered the 310. In terms of sound quality, I really can't tell much difference between the two. As far as power, both get loud enough to the point where the extra power of the XLS 1500 just does not matter in my case. Also, not being a pro audio gear, my HK receiver's pre-out voltage wasn't high enough to drive the XLS 1500 to full power.

At the end of the day, as superficial as it may seem, from the aesthetics perspective the XLS is just an eyesore and its weird shape makes it difficult to place among other home audio components, so I think I'll send the XLS back and keep the 310.

Did some more auditioning. It actually doesn't take that much to get the AMP310 to start clipping. The XLS1500 delivers a lot more power. Heck, even my HK 3490 which is rated at 120 WPC seems to be outpowering this 150 WPC AMP310. Now I'm torn... don't know which one to keep... the more powerful or the better looking.
