DXVA works, but not in 1080p

Hi all,

I just upgraded from a 720p TV to a 1080p one. As a result, DXVA playback stopped working, it just gives a black window / black screen. Non-DXVA works fine.

Of course the TV doesn't have anything to do with the issue, but it's the resolution. I can switch back to 1366x768 or 1280x720 and it works just fine again. But all DXVA playback jams immediately in 1920x1080, no matter if it's windowed or full screen. Changing refresh rate has no effect.

I'm running WinXP x86, MPC-HC with VMR9; Radeon HD 2600 Pro, C2D E4300. Just installed new Catalyst drivers and all Windows updates, too.

Any ideas? HD2600 just incapable of 1080p DXVA output?

Thanks.

I'm just spit-balling but could it be the amount of video RAM that the GPU can't access it in the DXVA buffer? Or that there's too much data at that highest res and you've overflowed the available RAM for that card's technology?

Can you say: $17.99 will replace that HD2600Pro with a HD5450?

Must have been something like that. I finally gave up, tore down the unbelievable cable mess and switched to an old GF 8800 GT. And it works in all resolutions.

It just has an awfully loud fan, have to replace it with that HD5450 or similar.

Do you have any older ATI cards you can try like the HD4850 that works fine.
