I've read all the other sub $500 threads and a lot of the suggestions dealt with black friday ads...14' throw, was hoping for a 100' screen. I'd prefer 1080p but if 720p blows the 1080p away with specs then I'd consider 720p...

From the other threads...Some that were mentioned (most are no longer in the $500 category or only are if and when you can find a refurb)

Epson 8350
Epson 705HD
BQ W700
Optoma hd66
Acer H5360

The cheapest 1080p projector is the viewsonic pro8200 at 799(720 at newegg right now), the refurb was available for under 500 but there hasn't been any more for awhile now.

Even the 720p projectors are hard to find for under 500. The h5360 is 510 at newegg and it often goes on sale with a 50 off code. The other right now is the 705hd refurb which is 439 on the epson site. Some LED units are also around 500, like the PLED w500, although the price is up right now, was down to 399 for a short time on ebay via tigerdirect.

Now I see frys has the Epson 705HD rebrub for $399, which is better, that or the Acer? Looks alike

Acer is DLP and the Epson is LCD. So there are a lot of people who prefer DLP because it has more POP, but there also some that see rainbows and get headaches because of the color wheel on the DLP(or are afraid a family member or guest will) so they prefer LCD. Epson also has a two year warranty compared to one for the acer. The acer can be 3d with the vp3d1 or other converter.
