Can I put Maggies in this room? - Page 2

I'm not buying into all of this talk about movies vs. music...blah, blah, blah.
Just recently at the Oscars, if I remember correctly, awards were given out for sound quality as well as video. Most of my favorite movies have a wonderful sound track, and lots of music.
I don't like the question "do you listen to music or movies".
When watching a movie, whether you like it or not, you are listening to plenty of music.

Look at pics of my room here:

and scroll to post 1608 for a better overview. The room is 16x20 with the speakers on the long side of the room. The Maggies would be 2 feet from the front wall and 5 feet from the sides - with adjusting within this space for best sound and placement/integration with the subs. Seating is 9 feet from the speakers with 4 feet behind

I'd like to use my current 6 y.o. Yamaha 650 receiver to power but could add an '80s 100w/ 2 channels Yamaha integrated amp or a 200w/ 2 channels McIntosh amp (though I prefer not lugging the 85 lb. beastie out of my 2 channel set up). I've driven 4 ohm speakers with the receiver (for a very short while) and int. amp (as a main system) before. I really don't want to buy additional amps or receiver and would be a deal breaker on the speakers.

A concern would be the center channel - I didn't check the dimensions and could use some advice there for sure.

I use this room 80/20 for music/movies and would like to do this as inexpensively as possible with new speakers.

If you have the space and the approval from "the higher authority" you will be in your glory. They need to be two to three feet from the rear wall, and of course lots of clean power. When the time is right, I'm going to try the 1.7s in a smaller room, as my mains.

True. But The big explosions and whispers of the actors is what gives you the wild swings in dynamic range.

...yes , I agree, but a Lot of different kinds of music that I listen to have "soft passages appearing from a black space in time" followed by sometimes tremendous dynamic range...I'm just sayin...not trying to argue here, just participate in the learning like most people here on the site.
