Hello, just wanted to record basic over the air channels via RG6 onto my PC and wanted something simple, inexpensive and friendly based with Windows 7. Would be used like a DVR. Any suggestions?

Mygica USB tuners from Meritline work well. I have 4 of them in addition to Ceton. You can get a TV tuner with or without FM. One with FM, will also support NTSC in addition to NTSC.

FM works great and you can stream it, just like live TV to other TV's via extenders.

Use the drivers posted on Meritline to make it work with WMC7.

I use a HDhomerun and a Avermedia tuner card for OTA HDTV recording.

Avermedia Duet is a dual tuner PCIe card. Around $60 I think. Can be use for OTA and ClearQAM from cable. I used one both ways and was very happy with it.

Consider a network attached tuner's. This allows you to share tuners between multiple PC's.

You can pickup a used dual tuner HDHomerun on ebay for about $50. Highly recommended if you have a good place for it in your house.

I have also used a Hauppauge HVR-2250. It works fine, but it's quite a bit more expensive.

I haven't used the Duet, but you can't beat the price. I would definitely try it if you must have an internal tuner.

Definitely go dual tuner

Billdacat and StanF...this looks like a sweet deal. So I take it its RG in and Cat5E out? Must be if used a network. I don't see it at 50 unless of course one is bidding. Thank you for pointing this out. DM

I still have not done anything yet, but my wife is bugging me to be able to record a local show in the afternoon. So is this all I need....as in the proper model?

I have Win7 with it media center.
A linksys wireless wrt54 router.
A powerful quad core processor with 2 1 tb hardrives.
I only have available ota channels which comes in on RG6 from attic antenna.

Please advise as I need to make a purchase. Thx, DM

PS. Also....what would be needed...if I want to record a local channel that's coming in on the RG6,
and then something from netflix or off the internet? I don't think it'd be an issue, but need to ask.

did you have the remote w/ you'r Hauppauge HVR-2250?
if yes is it like a combonation remote like it can be used for TV tuner, WMC & XBMC also can this remote be used as a mouse pointer?

OP I use the Hauppauge HVR-950 on both LT (when I travel) and HTPC works excellent for OTA and cable. got off Ebay for $38. shipped I see them all the time for around this price.

Thanks STB

Yes, that is the correct model. It has 2 channels that do OTA or ClearQAM

You have plenty of horsepower and storage

Please advise as I need to make a purchase. Thx, DM

Not a lot of experience here but, you should be able to play Netflix, Hulu etc. and download from internet w/high speed internet service.

If you get the HDHomeRun you don't need any other hardware to play and record HDTV from your antenna. It has coax in and Cat5e/Cat6 out. You are limited by the number of tuners in the device you choose (2 in the cheapest one) and the capabilities of your PC.
