HT is installed, now it needs tweaking

I have an 1121, Pl-89's Pl-28, surrounds, xls1500, and a MA2050. The Acoustechs look and sound great, but I can't say that I can tell a difference in sound from the tsi 300's. Although I haven't tried the acoustechs connected to the reciever, I do believe the amps make a big difference. I have no problem with movies, music now thats another issue. While playing music in 2-channel at reference levels, I noticed the clipping led flashed a couple of times. I was under the assumption that at 300rms the amp wouldn't come close to clipping. I originally had the pl-89's on the crown, then I tried them on the marathon and the samething would happen listening to 2-channel music at reference levels. Of course I turned the gain down on the amps, but the sound levels drop. Since my ears aren't bleeding, I want more. I was hoping with a little help from you guys I would be able to tweak my system and get ear bleeding results. Let me know what info I need to provide.

Is there a meter of some sort that I can use to measure SPL?

According to the JL spl meter I got to up to 105db from 12ft away, but the red clipping led's would start to flash at those listening levels. I thought neither of the two amps I have would clip with these speakers.

Hit up to 106db before the clipping led's start flashing according to VU meter. I'm concerned about the amp clipping at the sound levels that I like. I don't know just how accurate these reading are, but I tend to like my max louder than 106db; if those are accurrate readings.

I measured the voltage (AC) at one of my tower terminals and it fluctuated no higher than 13vac divided that by 8 then mutiplied the I times 13 and thats a grand total of 21.125w. Something is not right; just don't know what

Does this sound right? I was gonna get an amp for a different setup, Maybe I could use either the MA2050 of xls1500 to go with the other setup and just get a EP4000 to power my pl-89's. Or will this happen regardless of what amp I'm using. Could it be the speakers causing the these amps to act in this way?

Guys, if I can get you to point me in the right direction that would be great. I've searched the forum and googled for some insight on this matter. The clipping LEDs never flash during movies this is only during music. I want to make sure that a I don't overlook a problem that would be present no matter what amp I get? Please, I looking for a little help.?

According to two apps on my iphone I can. I hit 106db on VU meter and JL audio tool, but I don't know how accurate these measurements are. How are you determining you spl?

Do you believe low source voltage may be an issue. How can I tell what my source voltage is? Will I benefit from an EP4000?

What are you driving with you xls1000? I've heard pf people using an xls 1000 ,1500 for driving subs (without mentioning clipping) which is way more demanding on an amp than mains set to small and crossed over at 80hz. Am I missing something?

I am determined to get to the bottom of this clipping issue. I checked the impedance of my pl 89's and my pl 28 and all three are reading 3ohms instead of the rated 8ohms The ma 2050 and xls1500 claim 500wpc(probably more like 400) @ 4ohms but the acoustechs have a rms of 250w. Can this be the cause of the amp red clipping LED flashing?

Did your clipping LED ever flash? So the fact of my speakers ohming out @ 3 ohms should' be a concern?

Ok, for those who are interested, what I found was I had the gain turned too high; I was thinking they were volume knobs and was absolutely wrong. I had the gain controls on both channels set to -6, I adjusted them to -12 and the clipping went away. The only thing that changed was how much volume I'd give from the 1121 before it got really loud. before, It would get to a certain output level and then clip now I can get to that same output level and it never clips. Now on to another question I have, I noticed that the signal LED would only react to sounds like a really sharp snaredrum beat played from the tweeter, but would not react to lower frequency sounds played from the 8" drivers. Anyone care to share why this is?
