If talking 3D quality:
  • The Ultimate Wave Tahiti (esp. solar system part), great demo of 3D, so razor sharp
  • Avatar

I have Sammy's Adventure on its way to me...

I own 17 3D movies and although Ultimate Wave Tahiti had one of the best 3D scenes with the solar system animation which lasted a minute or two, the rest of the movie was just okay with the 3D - nothing special. I actually ended up reselling that one.

Hubble is great and I often use it as my 3D demo. The content is appropriate for anyone, it's interesting, the 3D is great and it's relatively short.

Under the Sea has excellent 3D.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of GaHoole has excellent 3D as an animated movie.

I have Hugo on order and from what I read, that one might be the best 3D for a live action movie.

From what I read, Sammy's Adventures has the best 3D for any animated movie - in fact, it is said to have the best 3D period. It's hard to find in region A however. I accidentally bought the region B and it won't play on my Oppo. Although it likely has the best 3D, the movie itself is not very good.

Out of the movies I have, the top 5 are the only movies I have watched more than once. My ratings are based on my enjoyment of the 3D and not the movie.

Movies:

Hugo
Avatar
Pirates On Stranger Tides
Resident Evil Afterlife
Tron
Transformers Dark Of The Moon
IMAX Deep Sea
IMAX Space Station
Drive Angry
Sanctum
Captain America
Green Lantern
Harry Potter pt 2 (didn't buy pt 1 3D after this mess)
Green Hornet
Last Airbender
Piranha

Cartoons:

Monsters vs Aliens
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
Monster House
Cars 2

I bought these but haven't watched them yet.
Open Season
Rio

I think I'm about done buying cartoons and conversions. The majority of my purchases were based on the the fact they were 3D and I would not have purchased them otherwise. I am looking forward to Hugo.
I'm not in the "POP" fan base so the more "POP" something has, the less I like it.

I'm suprised to hear this. I thought the under water scenes are fantasiic. Looks like the fish are right in front of you. I agree the surfing scenes are nothing special. Although that female surfer was not so bad...

IMAX Under the Sea

Sammy's Adventure
A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas

At the moment it is only the UK version. However Amazon have the 2D version available for pre-order so there may be a chance it will be coming out in 3D soon also! I think it is set for an Aprilrelease.

Ahh I see. Good to know! Thank you!

For me, the listing with best 3D effects would be as follows from top to bottom:

Avatar
Hugo
Sammy's Adventure (for pop-out and depth)
Under the Sea
Legend of the Guardians-Owls of Ga'hoole
Tron Legacy
How to Train Your Dragon
Lion King
Have you seen, "Meet the Robinsons? I watched it last week and it has great 3D effects. Kudos Walt Disney.

Cute flick, especially the premise. As an adoptee myself and am aerospace engineer by profession, I could totally relate.

Add this one to your list. Oh, it is animated FYI.

On my setup (112" screen w/ Optoma HD3300) Hugo is, by far, the best 3D experience I've had. The video is so incredibly crisp and the depth is amazing. Scorsese chose shots that really gave the viewer a sense of depth. No other movie has given me the feeling of truly looking through a window. There was no evidence of motion blur, either. The movie is great, but the 3D is absolutely stunning. Every other 3D movie that I have is left in the dust compared to Hugo, but the other ones I have, in order of goodness (IMHO, of course) are:

A Christmas Carol (really, really good 3D)
Transformers 3
Legend of the Guardians
Resident Evil: Afterlife
Tron
POTC 4
IMAX: Under the Sea
IMAX: Grand Canyon Adventure
Captain America
Thor
Potter 7 Part 2 (the most craptacular 3D experience I've had)

I don't have many, but here's a short list based on the quality of pop out effects for me:
  • Imax Under the Sea (best parts: angle fish & Grouper [potato cod], sting rays and jelly fish, wow)
  • Sammy's Adventure (close tie for 2nd in pop out effects but I'm not crazy about the story and while there are many more effects than Under the Sea, none as good as the two I mentioned)
  • Mega Mind
  • The Ultimate Wave Tahiti (I surf and I find the quality of the surfing in this movie sucks, although I do acknowledge that Kelly Slater is a great surfer and the footage is great quality)
  • Imax Deep Sea (nice footage but no real great pop out other than the kelp forest, which is really great to see)

Let's keep this thread going, I'm always on the look for more 3D content ... BTW I'm in no rush but would eventually like to get: Despicable Me (I have the 2D version) and How to Train Your Dragon. Aside from that I'd like to hear about the 3D in John Carter and would like to see the up coming Brave in 3D ...

No one ever mentions IMAX Legends of Flight in these threads ... I have about a dozen 3D Blu-Rays and that has the most impressive effects to me. IMAX Under the Sea is also very good.
Yes Legends of Flight is good, but it seems like they almost didn't know when to hold back at times. Sometimes the 3D was too in your face to the point of nausea almost

The best pop out 3D i've seen so far is:

Yes! I had to turn this off as my eyes started to hurt and I actually started getting a headache (and nauseous), but it had the best 3D effects i've seen thus far. I've viewed most of the 3D releases (foreign & domestic) and most wasn't that great or good. Most movies were better watched in 2D.

I'll have to check out Legends of Flight, thks

My Top 5 are listed in my 3D blog:

http://3d-tv-gaming.blogspot.ca/2011...your-3dtv.html

1. Tangled
2. Under The Sea
3. Despicable Me
4. Cars 2
5. Drive Angry

Now, I also just saw Piranha 3D on the weekend. I haven't decided yet whether it deserves to make the Top 5, but I really enjoyed it.

Also just bought Puss n Boots on eBay. Looking forward to watching that one as well...

I really need to see Avatar and/or Hugo on my 3DTV to see how these movies look on a TV vs. big screen.

Unfortunately as great as Avatar looked in the cinema, the story was mediocre at best. And while I really enjoyed Hugo in the theater, it really doesn't seem like the type of movie I'd watch more than once.

I'm torn between renting/buying each of these titles.

I just recently got a 3D tv and am looking to buy a 3D blu ray. I really don't want to buy more than 1 for now. Is there a best one, if you had to pick only one, forever, which would it be? I saw a couple where people say there was too much pop out, there is no such thing to me, so whatever has the most pop out is what i'm looking for. I like depth, but it isn't nearly as important to me as pop out/coming at you stuff. Avatar, toy story 3 and transformers 3 are not an option for me because I already own the regular blu ray of those. Thanks!

Agreed. By far the most aggressive 3d out there. Ordered from yesasia, com. Took about 2 weeks to get to me.
