Getting Canare 4S11 into bananna plugs

Hey Guys, I have Blue Jeans/Canare 4S11 speaker cable. It's 14 guage with four seperate conductors in the jacket.

Great speaker cable, but I'm running into a problem where after I twist the pairs together, getting them into any type of bananna plug. Any tricks for getting this to work?

If I can't get the plugs on, is it safe to twist pairs together at the speaker end, but not on the amp end when hooking up or is this an undviseable practice due to signal path reasons?

I had a similar problem with 12 gauge wire I was installing.

I solved the problem by getting some large gold-plated spade lugs, soldering the wires into those, and then used the type of banana plug that has a bolt on the top to screw down the lugs.

It just requires the right banana plugs. What plugs are you trying to use?

I'm not sure I understand your last question. Are you proposing eschewing the plugs completely? That's fine but I am not sure I understand why you can't still twist them together at the amp end, too. But you don't have to, as long as you have a way to connect both wires of the twisted pair to the amp's terminal.

WBT connectors with the appropriate crimp sleeve would work, but you may find the price prohibitive.

You can also go with stack-able banana plugs.

Another thing that can be done (I did it on one system) is to wrap the the wires around a short piece of solid #12 wire and solder them to it. Leave enough solid wire free to attach to the banana plugs. Cover ALL of the copper with solder so it won't oxidize.

Cover everything except the end of the banana plug with large heat-shrink sleeving and plug them in.

When you twist a pair of stranded wires together, you get a three-step increase in gauge size. Thus, a pair of 14-gauge wires gets you an 11-gauge wire. That’s a non-standard size, so you’ll have to get banana plugs that accept 10-gauge.
