Best A-D box to rip vinyl - Page 2

I have an Inport by Xitel that I have owned for 6 years or more. It was fine for ripping vinyl at 44.1khz/16bit. It also is a simple device in that it was small, standalone, had rca input and usb output and operated off of usb power. Is there anything somewhat like that but for higher-res output?

I would go to Guitar Center for that. Hosa would be fine. Mogami is higher priced but not necessarily SQ higher end. Both are effectively affordable compared to the esoteric/boutique brands.

Reading this thread sparked an interest in me to give vinyl to digital transfer a try. ..Since I have a macbook pro I simply connected the record out of my amp to the line-in on my laptop (RCA-to-1/8" plug) and used Garage Band Pro to record then export as AIFF. It sounds great!!! ..Wanting a bit simpler work-flow I downloaded VinylStudio for free (for 5 albums, then $30 after trial-period) and it's fantastic; it tags all of the tracks and accurately inserts track breaks, etc. ..Am I missing something doing it this way? ..I'm shocked at how easy this is.

My motivation was in how bad CD can sound. Particularly the rock CDs from 80's and 90's. It started with listening to a lossless rip of Genesis "And Then There Were Three". Abysmal. Granted it isn't necessarily the CD in all cases, including this one. I have yet to hear this on vinyl. Could very well be the original master.

The deciding factor turned out to be my comparison of Genesis "Lamb Lies Down ...". My lossless CD rip I thought sounded pretty good. Then I heard a vinyl rip to 24/96k and was blown away how much better it sounded. That did it for me. Bought the box set of the Gabriel years on 180g.

BTW, I ended up going with the EMU 1616m pci. Amazon prime $400.

Maybe you could also make a recording with the Blue Ovals and some vanilla type interconnects. I would also like to hear that too.

Because i have a lap top i cant use the EMU 1616M. What would be the next best EMU unit i could use that either works with USB or Firewire?
