Out of all the choices you have I would get the Outlaw M8.

HOWEVER its my personally opinion than you are shooting yourself in the foot by not just getting a better single subwoofer. Being that this is a music focus set-up for $450 I would purchase the Emotiva X-Ref 10 in your shoes as its only slightly larger

If you are going for 2 subwoofer cause you want a stereo affect I feel like i should tell ya that sound frequencies below 80hz are not directional so 2 subwoofer won't give you stereo bass.

For music an XRef would probably be very good. The M8 is a nice sub, but I also suspect the XRef might suit your needs better.

For just 2 channel music why not just upgrade your speakers to something that plays down to 40hz? Then you don't have to deal with integrating multiple subs.

As for 1 vs 2 subs, id vote for two. The topic of stereo bass and lower crossovers to reduce localization has been popular in a few threads lately. Search for stereo bass and you should get a few hits. Myself and a few others in the audyssey thread recently did some testing and have now moved from the convential 80hz crossover to 40 or 50hz.

Yes it's $500 shipped but an extra $50 over the lifetime of the subwoofer isn't that much. Figure you have it for 5years that's only $10 extra a year, the cost so 2 cups of coffee per year

Personally I was hoping the $100 discount using the AUDIOHOLICS coupon code works on the X-Ref 10, that way there would be sealed sub for $400. As it stands the least expensive sealed sub that I am aware of (with the possible exception of kits from Dayton), is $500.

Than putting your money together for one quality subwoofer would be better.

I am speaking as a person who used a Budget 8" subwoofer in my apartment. When I had my 12" I got better over all bass at low volumes with the larger, higher level subwoofer. Only reason i sold it to go back to my budget 8" is a guy offered to pay me twice as much. I had no complaints from neighbors just didn't watch my movies at full volume after 10pm. And now with my Subwoofer isolation pad there is even less sound in their apartment.

Why is downfiring a bad thing. Bass is omni directional. the woofer does not need to be facing you for great imaging.

The outlaw subwoofer is above both of the other ones so its price is going to reflect it. But you can settle for a lower quality if you like to save a few dollars. Keep in mind speakers treated well have a long lifetime so you might want to calculate the how much that cost now will last you on a per year basis.

If you are looking for a really inexpensive pair of subs I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Pioneer SW-8. It's performace and build quality are far, far above the current retail price. A musical little sub.

I would agree. Either one of the X-Refs or NHT's sealed subs. They should have better SQ for music than two M8s.

I picked up the Dayton SUB-800 to use in my bedroom last week. I've got to say that it impressed me. On sale for $69 right now, so it's an even better deal.

I am using it in a bedroom (12x16) to add some warmth to a pair of Selah Aura Jrs. (Dayton ND-130 woofer and SB Acoustics SB-29 tweeter) and it sounds really good. (I have 2 SVS PC-ultras in my main listening/theater system)

I wouldn't build a big home theater aound the SUB-800, but to shore up the bottom end of some small bookshelfs, I think it is a real bargan.

No, you aren't going to get 20 hz, but in most rooms I think it will get close to 30hz, and if you are using two of them, then I think it's even better. It's definitely not a one note boomer, so if you keep the volume reasonable and don't expect them to go super deep, I would recommend it.

If you can't afford to step up to the big boys from SVS, Hsu, etc. ... I would recommend the Daytons.

Heck, if you have the room, the Sub-1000 is on sale for $89 now. Get two of them and don't look back.

I have Dayton Audio SUB-80s and believe they are the right "powered woofers" (sub is a misnomer in this case) in the right situation.

The two that are in a budget system (12x14 bedroom) do what I intend them to - add some low extension to my acoustic suspension book shelves. I have no way of measuring them but they probably go in the low 40s and the bass provided from them on tunes I'm intimately familiar with seems accurate. They perform well enough on action movies when kept within the realm they are intended to and with moderate volume will rattle stuff in the room when things go "boom."

For the price ($158 a pair/shipped and I wouldn't recommend less than two to lower the gain and help keep from pushing them to their excursion limits) and expectation they do well.
