best 65"+ tv out right now

Well if it must be 65" and out now I say get a Sony XBR65HX929.

If you can go to 70" or 60" get the Sharp Elite.

Or wait until we see the VT50 from Panasonic out shortly.

Best bang for the buck is ST30 - 65 (a few still around).

Well BB around Boston has the sets I have mentioned.

The ST30 is half the price of the HX929. IMO its 90% as good (and in some ways it even beats it). We argue around these forums about that last 10% towards perfection that most wont see or care about. Is the 100% increase in price worth the maybe 10% better PQ (which is subjective)? Not to vast majority of people. But it sounded at first like you had money to burn so get me the best and to me thats a Sharp Elite, HX929 or VT30 and I believe in a month or 2 the VT50 will be the best - If PQ is that important to you that Money does not matter. All of the 4 mentioned sets do not blow the ST30 out of the water and for the price it is the best bang for your buck.

Well to answer that we would need to know the viewing enviroment. Lots of windows and sunlight? Or man cave? Or in between?

At this point, with the new models shipping, I would wait a little while instead of buying right now. You might end up with a case of "Damn I should have waited" and be right back to square one LOL. I take it you are in Canada?

If you plan on getting your set calibrated don't go any lower then the panasonic VT or keep to the samsung 6500/7000/8000.

The lower samsungs are a better buy if you calbrate over the sub VT panasonics. Samsung has much better calibration controls.

Your getting dangerously close to Oled territory there. Might have to think about that if you can swing an extra 1k in there before say September! Just tossing it out there plus you could write about it here and make me jealous.

First off the largest size OLED announced is 55". Secondly who knows if it is ever going to come to fruition. Thirdly why in the hell would anyone want to buy a brand new technology that is way overpriced so that they can find all the things wrong with it? OLED will not be a viable option, price and reliability wise, for at least 5 or 6 years if it ever gets mass produced.

A 65 inch oled for only 1 k more? Can I have a toke on whatever you are smokin? No way a 65 inch is out and no no no no way its only 1 k more.

Oled sets will be priced perfectly in order to drain the wallets of those who know what oled is.

Did Sharp fix the color decoding issue with those?

The issue with the cyan tracking -- however major or minor one thinks it is -- is not yet fixed.

and the pulsing that is inherent in ALL of them to a certain degree. i had four sets and they all had the pulsing issue. which to me is way more of an issue then the cyan tracking.

these are the known flaws with this set, but if you aren't bothered by the pulsing issue, and you don't notice the slight color inaccuracy issue, this is
generally considered to be the best set on the market currently. it has far fewer issues and complaints by owners than the next best set, the sony hx959.

just be sure to buy it form a place that will accept returns as the return rate on both of these are on the high side.

I agree with all this. I personally come down on the side of the cyan issue being small, but was specifically answering someone's question -- which is the only reason I mentioned it at all.

The 'far fewer' is hugely overblown: the list of issues and complaints of the HX929 has similar length: blooming and (slight) banding. No problems with colors.

correct, no problem with colors but blooming and bandng/creasing issues persist with the sony. i track both threads on the lcd forum and, while not scientific, it does seem the sony has more issues and returns than the elite.

Remember that Sony HX929 is full range of sets, thus its production numbers are much much higher than Elite. Next, there was a period when Sony had a problem with the panel 'crease' which resulted in large number of returns. This crease affair is solved there are no creases anymore. And the most important: for comparison with Elite only the 65" HX929 is relevant. This set has excellent picture and no number of returns to speak about. Thus what remains is slight blooming and very slight banding which is really hard to see.

well i was on the thread this week and read about the last dozen pages. the creasing issue appears to be eliminated from all the sets but the 65" and some said it will sometimes disappear on its own. blooming and some banding are still there.

not knocking the set, just trying to help someone make a decision with as much info as they can get.

go to the thread. both the pulsing issue and the cyan inaccuracy isn't noticed by the majority of owners. those that see the pulsing usually return the sets and their replacements also pulse, so one would think it's present on all the sets but for whatever reasons it doesn't bother many people.

i think you're overstating the issue.
