Analog to digital converter

I would like to buy a analog to digital converter that will convert analog composite and S-Vid (maybe component too) and then out out it via firewire to my computer for editing etc. I read that firewire is superior to USB.

I had been considering the Canopus/Grass Valley ADVC55 or ADVC110

I would need PAL and NTSC compatibility

Has anyone got much to say about these devices or any other recommendations to consider. At this stage i think i have settled on the ADVC110.

I would also be using it in conjunction with a TBC or video filter of some sort.

I was considering the Datavideo TBC1000 but then i notice there are not switches or buttons to adjust any of the colour settings such as something like this

Also would i be able to use on of those Canopus converters to convert just audio say from a tape deck or record player or is it only for video and i would need a different device to convert audio only signals?

Well after reading about it all day, i think i will get the ADVC110 and pair it with maybe the Datavideo TBC-1000. I think that is a good combo?

Or maybe i should get the Canopus ADVC300? and then i wont need the TBC-1000?

I think i will most likely get the ADVC110. They even have a model higher up that accpepts component but its just out of my price range.

Other options???

I am running a 2009 HP compaq laptop win vista 32 bit 4GB ram dual core, 1.83Ghz. Nothing special and will need updating soon. Probably go to win7 as thats what all the new stuff has pre installed. Dont really like Vista but like always just when i get used to a operating system i upgrade to a new one and have to start all over. Was the same when going from 98 to XP and XP to vista.
