Don't expect much from a $200 subwoofer if you want it for 50% music. If you want something to go boom with your music then ok but if you want a musical sub that will play more than one note you will have to spend much more.

A lot of info to absorb. The bic f-12 keeps popping up. How about the bic pl200 what's your call and recommendations
post #1241 of 1346
Thanks for responding.. until I do a total upgrade I guess an all purpose subwoofer will suffice. So what's your recommendations

It is a better sub than the F12 but of course costs quite a bit more. For that money I would go with the Klipsch RW12-d because it is as good if not a little better and costs less.

If it's not on sale right now, it's often $299 at newegg.

Seems to be every other week or so.

Disclosure: I love mine.

eknow, if I were you, with music in mind, I would go with the Cadence CSX12 Mark II for $279 shipped instead of the Klipsch or the PL200. I think it's a better overall sub than anything in it's price range. If I was going to get another sub that's what I'd get.

That does look pretty nice. What makes you say its better for music than the rw?

Jim reviewed the Cadence and so did another guy on the forum who's name I don't recall at the moment and both thought highly of the sub for the money. I'm not trying to put words in Jim's mouth or anyone else's so you'd have to read the review of both guy's. I have to leave and don't have time right now to look for them.

I think it's a bad choice if the sub is for HT usage. If you look at those numbers, it's 20db down from it's peak at 25hz. That sub could be really hard to get <30hz output out of in a room with the crossover set at 60 or 80hz. And so someone had better have Audyssey MultEQ or better on their receiver to help smooth the sub response, while also hoping that the room doesn't add any peaks in near the Cadence's SPL peak. Even then, not a good situation. If someone has other room correction software that doesn't correct the sub response, could really be a very bad idea to get that sub.

Angler was saying it might be better for music. I would be interested in Jim review.

Angler was recommending a sub for Eknow who wants to be able to use his sub for HT, too, even though music is a priority. So he needs to be aware that this sub is probably not a good choice for HT usage if he values that <30hz response range.

And Jim's review won't negate those measurements. Could be the sub worked well in his room because of the particular acoustic environment (I don't remember the review). But we can't predict that for Eknow.

Agreed. I reread your post and understand where youre coming from now. When I read the review my impression was that it doesnt go very low but was reasonably accurate but I didnt really look at the graph.

This is Jim's review of the Cadence CSX12 Mark II. No graphs (except the Bass Boost on pdf). I think Jim did a very informative review, as usual, without any hard numbers.

I am no audiophile (not by a long shot) but I purchased the Cadence CSX12 and absolutely love it for HT, more so than for music but since I am 95% HT and 5% music, it fits my bill pefectly. In my room with my setup the way it current its, I preferred it over an Epik Legend for HT but preferred the Epik Legend for music. The Cadence shakes our whole house and I can feel the bass in my chest watching movies. I have no SPL meters or anything like to do formal measurements but its more than adequete for me and an annoyance for our neighbors - one of our neighbors stopped over and said it was vibrating pictures and dishes in their house and I certainly don't lisiten to our system loud. For music, its not quite as crisp and punchy as I think the Epik is but it was leaps and bounds better than my broken Harman HTiB sub and a Klipsch Sub10 that I tried. My non-audiophile $0.02.

Sounds respectable. I would not shy away from it but that doesnt convince me that it is clearly better than the rw for music or movies for that matter. My worthless impression is that they are very similar with the rw going a little lower. If the CSX was more like $250 I might be inclined to look at it a little harder but with them being the same price or $20 different I would still go with the rw. I am glad that you brought the Cadence up though. If the rw ever sells out it may be the next great bargain.

When I was considering what sub to buy I picked the Cadence over the Klipsch, not because it sounded better, but, because I feel that the build quality of the Cadence is better than the Klipsch. I can't prove that but came to that conclusion from all the material I read for both subs. It's just my opinion. In my opinion, the Cadence looks better too. The sound quality difference in the low end doesn't matter to me.

As I've said, I ended up with a used Jamo SUB 650 that I'm completely satisfied with because it has more connection options than the Cadence. Why I was woried about that, I don't really know.

The Cadence was actually more articulate then I expected it to be, but it didn't go quite as low as I would have liked. There was a lot of output in the mid-bass region, so it definitely made it's presence known. The build quality and the feature list was quite impressive for the price, even back then when it cost more then it does now. Unfortunately I've never heard the RW-12d to make a comparison, but my guess is it would be able to play deeper. I don't imagine it could play louder then the Cadence though, because that sucker was not afraid of volume.
