Actually, I was only half kidding. You certainly know I hold a special place in my heart for budget subwoofers, but of late I've reviewed mostly units that don't fit the description (with the exception of the NXG NX-BAS-500). That's why I contacted PE and asked for a SUB-1200; I wanted to get back to my "roots", so to speak, and see what $119 could possibly buy. Turns out the answer is more than I anticipated. I'm not sure where Monoprice could have cut any corners to produce a subwoofer that costs less than this one does, but I am somewhat curious.

It could be like the Energy speakers that Monoprice cloned. It seems like Monoprices is often buying direct from China. Whereas as with the Dayton sub, Dayton is taking a profit before Parts Express gets it. If you lop of 20 to 30% for what Dayton is making off it, the prices are much closer.

Dayton is parts-express

Dayton is just the name of PE's house brand, simple as that.

I am considering purchasing a 10 or 12 inch Dayton for a family member who owns a small apartment. So far would you say it would be worth it without spilling the beans on your upcoming review?

I am also eyeing the Polk PSW10 (eek) NXG Prosub125 and entry level Velodyne 10". This will be used with a Vizio soundbar and price will be kept as close as possible to $100.

Definitely go with the 12" Dayton.

That's what I'm leaning towards so far. Seem like a lot of sub for the money

In that case, you can't have it.

Hmm, While I haven't heard much of the Who's music I did receive a Who Concert DVD from Value Electroncis as a free gift when I bought my TV last year. I have been meaning to watch it. Thanks for the reminder guys. Should be some nice material for my SVS, Jamo, Oppo and Elite setup. cool.gif

I do my reviews on a first come first served basis, and with 6 other units in front of it I won't get to spend a lot of time with the SUB-1200 for a while. However, as soon as I get a new subwoofer I always run it for a few hours, just to make sure everything is functioning. It would be embarrassing to have to contact a manufacturer weeks after they sent me something and tell them it's DOA. With that in mind... I did run the SUB-1200 for a couple of hours, and I can tell you this much; for HT it's a steal @ $119. I didn't really play any music, so I can't comment on that yet, but for TV/movies it works pretty darn good. Definitely get the 12" though.

I think I will go for the 12". This will be going in a small apartment and will be hooked up to a Vizio Sound bar using its sub output. I will be breaking it in at my apartment for a week first wink.gif. Vizio claims a low frequency response down to 60hz but I will be using my trusty SPL meter and test tones to blend the sub with the sound bar.

Her Bose wave radio recently bit the dust so she has been using her sound bar for music which BTW she feels sounds much better. I think adding the Dayton will make her very happy.smile.gif

Programmed my Harmony Remote to Control my Klipsch RW-12d Subwoofer.

Which of the other SWs mentioned here have this Ability?

Please list them my Brand & Model Number, thank you.

well the RW-12d arrived today in one piece, no damage of any kind!!

This thing is BIG. I guess I was expecting it to be, but when you actually have it...feels much bigger.

I dunno if I just don't have it set up right, but I really don't care for it right now. It just seems to be too much. I have it set to -5db on the sub itself, and it just sort of feels like it kicks in when it shouldnt.

I will say, the YPAO is a pile of JUNK. For no reason this thing repeatedly sets my fronts at small, even with the sub hooked up, and it has the sub set at -10db rolleyes.gif

SMALL for Speakers is good, lets the BASS redirection SOFTWARE do its job and send the LFE to the SW

YPAO is only junk if you dont know how to use it. Keep changing the sub volume and rerunning YPAO until the avr sub volume is close to 0. Then change the speakers to small and set the xover to 80.

My fault, typo. It sets the speakers to LARGE, not small.

I read that the -10db set by YPAO is probably because the sub volume was too high, so I turned it down to -14 on the sub, and now YPAO reads it as -2, which seems about right yes?

Currently the sub is set to LFE, Phase is 0. How do I change the speaker size on there manually without it screwing up the YPAO settings? My speaker size is locked unless I go to manual.

That will work. Go into Manual and change the speaker size to small. It will not mess up the YPAO results. Just dont change anything else.

Okay. Have the sub at -16db, YPAO has it set at 0.0 so I guess thats good?

Speakers are now set to small. What is the power amp setting I want? None of the 3 seem to match what I actually have..

What is a "power amp setting"?
Edit...If you are talking about Music, Movie and Night you can use whatever sounds best to you.
