Let's get back to the technical aspects. Here is the measurement for the CSX12:

Here is the measurement for the Lava LSP12

It's the same type of peaky midbass response.

So, when Jim writes,

For that to be true, then the Cadence sub would also be a one note sub. The Cadence sub review he wrote clearly refutes that generality. So either he has changed his mind about the Cadence, or this generality doesn't work. It can't be both.

I should also add, here is the NXG NX-BAS-500 measurements from Sound and Vision, another subwoofer that Jim likes that has a peaky midbass response:

So here is another sub that Jim reviewed, and liked, that counters that generality that a peaky midbass response indicates a "one note" sub. I just don't see how one can predict that the Lava sub will be bad based on these two other experiences.

Bond 007: room is approx 3400 cu ft, 90% movies. Read previously that dual PB-1000 would be increase of 6db (don't recall if that was over the single PB-1000 or the single PB-12?), so just wondering if dual Lava LSP-12 would be better considering it's the cheaper choice?

On Friday, I had a double (3oz and I'm two hundred pounds) and twenty ounces of beer and my blood pressure was up fifteen points the next day. Sunday it was down ten points. I haven't taken this morning's readings.

I'm thinking a half pitcher of some decent tap with the occasional dinner out as from personal readings I can see a direct correlation to the blood pressure rise but it quickly falls back starting the next day. I'd hate to think I'm playing Russian Roulette with stroke and a beer but my understanding of these things say, as long as things are smooth and healthy inside the arteries, no concern of blood clots developing. My inclination, unless a special occasion, I just have to let it go all together as a three shot cocktail, neat, will drive my blood pressure up fifteen points. Boo-hoo me.

3400 ft^3 is a pretty large space for a single PB1000, so duals are really a better choice for you. As Transmaniacon said, dual LSP's will probably have more output into the lower 30's, but the PB1000 will dig much deeper. It all depends upon what you want to achieve, and how much money you have available of course.

+1. My HT space is ~3,400 cu.ft. and I would definitely recommend duals of any moderately-powered sub for a space that size.

For a room that size, the PA-150 might be a better choice. It won't dig as deep as the PB-1000, but will have about the same, if not better, 30Hz+ output as the Lavas, and should beat them from 20-30 as well.

+1

This also gives you the option of adding a 2nd, matching PA-150 later on if you want more output, which might be easier than trying to find spots for two more LSP12s (for a total of four). Generally, it is best to use the same sub in multiple sub configuration setups; makes it easier to integrate them all.

Alcohol's not a struggle but my stupid blood pressure is. That was my sole point. Thanks for the thought. Rest assured, there are no triggers here. Six months ago I would have been right there with a pic of my favorite adult beverages but as one gets older, issues such as blood pressure creeps into the picture. Choices have to be made. I love the taste of a few good cold ones. I enjoy the relaxing benefit of a three shot cocktail of my favorite whiskey and then increasing blood pressure entered the picture. Boo-hoo me. tongue.gif

The benefits of high blood pressure, should one survive an event are; blown out kidneys and the ever lingering potential for stroke, heart attacks and an ever failing circulatory system; not to mention a lifetime of blood pressure controlling medication. Kinda hard to support continuing to drink alcohol when those are the alternatives.

(i was just throwing a lament in as many has been the time when i participated in such entertainment as yours and personally, I was ticked that I have to drop out of this type of fun.)

(my ale/lager of choice were/are the many and varied local brews)

Yesterday's struggle was trying to watch a play-by-play of Seattle and Tampa Bay online (no cable coverage) as Tampa lost in overtime.

Today's struggle, waiting for next Sunday to come around. tongue.gif

(Chicago beat Green Bay....Woo-hoo! That win sure messed their league up as now, here it is mid-season and the top three are all tied. tongue.gif)

Any chance anyone could post a photo of the driver or inside of the PA-150 or a link to where one may be? Can't find any online. Thanks!

Here are some shots of the smaller PA-120, though I would imagine things are similar.

Josh Ricci may have one in his review on data-bass.com, but the site is currently being upgraded.

I didn't want to pay more than $150 for a sub. I might could swing a little more. Is this Lava sub better than the Dayton 1200? I saw lots of reviews for the Dayton.
Would the sony w2500 be as good?
According to the owner's manual (PDF), the SAW2500 is rated as 60W RMS at 1% distortion / 100W RMS at 10% distortion, with a frequency response of 28-200Hz +/- ?dB. I'd pass on it.

The Dayton SUB-1200 is a better - and well-regarded - choice.
I think if you can get the Lava for $170, I would take it over the Dayton SUB1200, but both are fine budget choices.

Will one sound better for fps? I just got B4 and pre-ordered COD Ghost.

Gaming and movies are pretty similar, it will make your explosions go boom.
Boom is good, but I want it to sound good for my music. I listen to mostly hard core and dub step.

+1. A couple of options to consider aiming for:
- an SVS PB-1000 ($499, shipped - with free return shipping within 45 days); or,
- a Rythmik LV12R ($589, not sure if that includes shipping).

It's all about the Benjamins and how many of them you have to throw at the problem. Subwoofers don't care. Subwoofers are heartless. Subwoofers are dead and cold. Either one buys for performance or one lives with disappointment. A feral cat is friendlier than a subwoofer.

Feral cats attack people and dogs. I hear what you are saying. I guess I have to wait a long time if I got to spend more $. frown.gif

No on the PB-1000, and yes on the Rythmik LV12R for $589 shipped. Over all a better subwoofer.

I had it narrowed down to those two options and I ended up with the Rythmik.
