There should be no issue with your placement, other then it might not be the best location sound wise. The TL250 speakers are pretty small, meaning the crossover will more then likely be on the high side (100Hz?), so having the sub close to the fronts is actually beneficial in your case.
There's really no generic settings to "start" a subwoofer at. In general though... if it's facing the listeners then having a 0 degree phase is probably going to work the best. If your receiver is handling the crossover duties -- which it should be -- then disabling the subwoofers crossover, or putting it at the highest setting, is best. Does your receiver has room EQ like Audyssey?
