Well feb is almost over,i still have not heard an official word when avatar 3d will be available to the public. This is the one 3d movie i have been wanting for a long time.I'am getting impatient, hope to hear some good news soon.
Yeah, I have been watching for a public release also, and still not available even for preorder. The eBay auctions for the Panasonic exclusive bluray are still selling in the $65 to $90 range. I am hoping when the online stores list Avatar 3D available for preorder that the eBay prices will drop.

I got sick of waiting for news so I ebayed one. No regrets, it's fantastic. Even at $76.00. I don't blame anyone who refuses to lay out that much cash for one.

I received my copy free with panny Blu-ray player but I have shown off this TV with this movie at least 30 times. Even if I did pay that kind of price, the amount of times it has been shown more than pays for itself! No shame in that.

I'm sure it's written in their contract with Panasonic that no announcement can be made until after the Panasonic offer expires. I bet we should see an announcement soon.
Don't know, but until the 3D version is released to the general public, buying the cheapest Panansonic Blu-ray player (currently about 87 bucks) might be the best way to go... then you can keep or sell the player.
I purchased 2 Panny BD players and ebayed both 3D disks, after watching 1 several times of course. I will rebuy it when it comes out. I think I'll eBay my Extended BD now, while it's still got some value; probably have to watch it one more time first!

I have a extra sealed copy for sale if anyone is interested. $70 shipped. PM me for details

since the exclusivity is over. I am going to wait for it to come to retails. Some ebayers are just crazy though.

I cannot believe that someone already purchased one at that price. WOW!!

Good question. Just got my free copy for buying a Panasonic 3D Blu Ray Player. The disc is labeled "Not for Sale. Promotional Use Only." Have not seen anything anywhere about a release date for the general public.

Makes me wonder, however, if James Cameron plans to do the same type of thing with his new 3D version of Titanic? Would not surprise me if he did.

I have the "promotional" theatrical 3D release, but would like to have a good "extended" 3D release, so hoping that it happens soon. I'll pre-order the day that option becomes available.
watched this through for the first time last night. it definitely has some of the most amazing 3d i've seen on disc yet, but i have a question. i have read about how the first scene when jake wakes up and exits his pod has some of the best depth ever, but i thought the 3d in this scene in particular looked very weird and almost like a bad conversion. once the movie shifts to pandora everything looks amazing but some of the early non-cg scenes just looked a little "off" to my eyes. has anyone else had a similar experience?

Had no idea how much folks were getting for Avatar 3D. I have an extra copy because I bought a Panasonic BD player last summer. I already have a copy from the ultimate 3d starter kit. I think I will list it on ebay tonight.

How long was your wait for the movie?

That's what has contributed to slowing down the 3D market. Avatar was basically the movie that got 3D taken seriously in the last decade, but that film and many of the higher profile films that have followed it have extremely limited their potential sales by getting locked into exclusivity windows.

I am sure Avatar helped sell a large number of Panasonic TVs and disc players, but not everyone bought Panasonic 3D hardware. If you wanted any of the DWA films you were locked into Samsung hardware.

Even now with retailer exclusivity, it is hard to find good deals on 3D BDs. Nothing like killing potential 3D sales by charging a $10 to $15 premium.

How are most of the 3D fans going to react if the Hobbit films are a manufacturer exclusive for 2+ years. If that is the case then by the end of the exclusivity window 3D may be dead again.

For me, it was about 4 or 5 weeks, which was much quicker than I expected it to be.

I do notice the 3D in that scene "pushes" the eyes harder than anywhere in the rest of the movie. I wonder if that effect was actually done on purpose, just to grab the viewer's attention to the 3D right at the beginning of the movie...

In answer to your question about how long to get the movie, I bought the player from Amazon in late January. Filed the free disc form immediately. Got the video about 2 weeks ago.

I had bought two Panasonic plasma's last year so I had two copies of Avatar. I had sold one for $130 CND and I've kept the other (Still haven't opened it).

Seeing the current prices on eBay I might just sell it as well.

When I purchased my new iPad on Friday I was talking to the sales guy and he mentioned that the exclusivity seal with Panasonic had been extended for another two months (I bought the iPad from a place that sells TV's / movies / computers etc - JB Hi-Fi in Australia). If this is indeed the case then it would explain why we have not heard anything about it being released to the general public to buy.

Sales people's rumors should always be looked at with a skeptical eye. Especially absent official word or press release from Panasonic. But even if that were true, at least in my area, most of the products that the offer was good on have run out of stock in the sales channels and replaced with the newer models making the issue of an extension a rather moot point.

If Paramount is putting out a 3D blu-ray of Titanic this year, then I can't imagine Cameron not insisting that Fox put out some sort of retail 3D blu of Avatar this year as well.

Did your rebate ever show up on their website? I sent mine off about a month ago. I live in Bama and they are in Tenn. and mine still hasn't showed up on the site. Im getting worried. I'll probably go ahead and call tomorrow to see if they know anything.
