Power Protection Help/Advice

It's that time again - I haven't purchased any new HT gear in too long and my itch is acting up. I was thinking that the next worthwhile addition would be a power conditioner/surge protector to replace the junk I have right now.

I'm looking to protect the following:
- LCD TV (Samsung LN46A650)
- 630W receiver (Yamaha RX-V667)
- 260W subwoofer (Klipsch Reference RW-10d)
- Xbox 360
- Blu-ray player
- Home theater PC

I've been looking at the Belkin PureAV PF30 Home Theater Power Console, Monster MP HDP 900G, Monster MP HTS 1600, and Tripp Lite HT10DBS. There are so many different options out there, however, that I honestly have no idea what to get. This is where you, the experts, come in (hopefully).

Can anyone provide advice on good products to remedy my power woes? I'm looking for something under $150, but I might be able to do $175 or so if the product were really good.

My only oddball requirement is that it be no taller than 5.5". Anything larger won't fit on my HT stand. This requirement obviously only applies to to component-style devices and not strip-style devices.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Whole-house surge protector would be money well spent, about $150.

Cutler Hammer Resi Series would be 1 to consider. 3-pack protects AC, coax, and POTS.

Like Neurorad wrote, think whole-house surge protector.

Wouldn't these products require an Electrician for installation? I had a whole house surge protector installed when I had a standby generator installed a couple years ago. The unit was approx $100 - $150 I think, but with install it was considerably more.

That's what I was thinking, too. As a result, I've been focusing my search on components and strips. There are just a million different ones out there, though, and it's hard to discern between them. Not to knock anyone's input, but I was really hoping for some advice on brands and features.

How is a layman supposed to know whether to get something with Clean Power® Stage 3 Deluxe or Clean Power® Stage 4 Deluxe, y'know?

I will take a look at whole-house solutions. Maybe installation isn't all that much these days.

You want something with series mode surge protection....SurgeX, BrickWall or ZeroSurge. Forget all the others!

You won't find an unbiased opinion. All the literature is from the manufacturers.

It's a huge industry.

If you had high end equipment, I'd suggest something expensive. In reality, your insurance deductible is probably less than the cost of the surge protector.

I suggest you get the elctrician out, to install the whole-house SPD. And buy a cheap(-ish, $60) point-of-use SPD for the electronics.

The pro installers make a chunk of change off of every install for this piece, so you'll read divergent opinions.

I've been very happy with Tripp-Lite products. I like the way they guarantee their products. I have them throughout my house. The home theater-targeted one you linked to is one I've been eyeing as well.

Ideally, I think it'd be best to get a whole-house surge suppressor and also use point-of-use suppressors. But, I'm not there yet either - I've only got point-of-use protectors. I don't lose any sleep over it, but it's on my long-term todo list.

I'm a fan of Square D products, and plan on going with the SDSB1175C as my whole-house TVSS unless I find a better product.
