Having this same metallic audio ringing people are complaining about. Feed via Directv in Chicago. REALLY annoying.

stereo, 2.1 system.

BTW, This sound was prominent on the Emmy's on FOX. I hear it on every Wheel of Fortune broadcast on ABC, it's also been reported on other live broadcasts and sporting events on ABC & FOX.

NYC here, stereo. I analyzed the waveforms back for the Emmy's and noticed separately, it's harder to hear, but when it's all muxed together (stereo mostly) it's really pronounced

Just standard 2 channel tv speakers. Someone mentioned it sounded like a cell phone ringing. I actually thought my cell phone was ringing earlier in the show.

Ugh.

Very pronounced as Miss Piggy and Kermit are talking.

Sounds like Kermit is talking with a jar held next to his mouth.

I am a Tech Director at a church in the NW burbs of Chicago (I also have a degree in audio). I am active on Twitter along w/ many other talented church tech directors. The going theory on the audio issues is a problem with the 5.1 folddown to stereo. A minor theory developing is a speaker processor presenting comb filtering issues.

Will keep you updated on the chat.

BTW, OTA on an SDTV.

The Robert Downey Jr bit is lame, un funny and the audio on Gwyneth Paltrow is low.

Yes, same theory here since the separated 5.1 streams themselves don't seem to have it as pronounced, but the fold down to stereo brings it out bad
post #71 of 248
They just swapped out the main mic. That didn't fix the problem.

I think you are right. On WABC-DT FiOS, I don't hear the problem on my audio system listening to the DD 5.1 audio on the HD feed and the Stereo audio on the SD feed.
I do hear the audio problem on my TV which is down mixing the 5.1 audio to stereo.

They have all the time for that lame Robert Downey Jr bit but winner literally gets the mic shutoff and lowered. Tacky.

Now they have 3 mics on stage.

The voice-overs sound better.

I think it only got bad when they turned the main mic on.

That last presenter before the commercial break was better.

Have to give credit where credit is due. Dave Stagl is one of the audio guys at North Point Community Church in Atlanta, GA. He was the 1st one that mentioned the 5.1 folddown issue. @fohdave on Twitter and his blog is goingto11.com.

Which now I see noise reduction problems could be part of it. Which could be the same physical box as the folddown.

Now it's MUCH worse on the main mic.

Stereo TV speakers.

P.S. The BC bit with the Bridesmaids lady was clean. I assume it was pre-taped.
Now I'm starting to hear it in the pre-taped VE package, unless they are doing live voice-overs over the packages?

What a treat to be watching tonight! Brian Glazer hit this one out of the park!

Not hearing any complains from anyone on the west coast, so starting to think the audio thing is an ABC East Net issue.
Now that you guys mention it, I'm hearing the "cell phone ringing" thing on my 2.0 TV in the kitchen during pauses in Christopher Plummer's speech. Not hearing it on my main 6.1 set up in the living room.

Watching WEWS Cleveland via D* and OTA. The problem TV is an Insignia 19" LCD being fed component video and audio (audio via 2 RCA cables) from the D* HR24 in the other room. So I guess the HR24 is doing the "downmixing"

Edit: Listening closer now on the stereo TV in the kitchen, and hearing the beeping while Crystal is taking. Definitely some kind of digital "noise"
It may just be me but I'm not hearing it via WABC HD (downmix to 2.0 on TV speakers)
mic noise and billy crystal got too much plastic.

comcast atlanta.
not funny.
Nevermind, I hear it now. Very strange.

Watching WEWS Cleveland via D*

It's most pronounced during rapid decay; when the syllable ends quickly (or S's and C's).

P.S. It was significantly better during Crystal's current piece where he said what people are thinking. Main mic is still problematic.
S's are really bad on the main mic.

p. cruz looks the best I've ever seen tonight. Shorter hair does her well...

WABC-DT NYC FiOS

The woman giving the background information on the winner was much louder and easier to hear with the last winner.

Am I missing the point of the women handing out the popcorn?
They seem to be doing things going to break that just seem a little odd.

LA viewer reports no issues. Don't know yet if watching in stereo or 5.1
