Looks like you can grab a 64GB Crucial M4 SATA III at Newegg for $64.99 shipped right now. The 128GB is $129.99 (and the 256GB is $279.99). No coupon code needed.

You can also get your local Microcenter to pricematch them.

If you buy it make sure to check and/or update its firmware:

I picked up a 64GB for my server. My HTPC already has the exact same drive. Now debating the 128GB for my laptop that has two drive bays, one is empty.

That has to be some type of internal error, I know there server went down for a while last night, but trust me those prices won't last long, if they honor those prices you better hurry and snatch them up cause your getting them a cost.

Just ordered a 64GB M4 from the Egg last week.

It was $80 after instant rebate.

FWIW, I received it yesterday and there is a sticker on it that says it was already updated to firmware rev 0309.

I doubt it is an error. The 128GB was just $150 the other day.

My 64GB status is Packaging.

Thanks for the link. My 128Gb is in packaging. I love NewEgg.

The weekly Tuesday newsletter(sales promotion) has the Crucial 128gb M4 as 169 with free shipping slashed 30 off it's 199 list price, the link you provided has it for 129, that's an error that will be corrected soon, I've benefited from these types of Newegg errors many times before, once the error gets posted on a slickdeal type site and they Bum Rush and mass buy these drives, they will correct the price, So I'm glad you spread the word here 1st, so that AVS members in search of a SSD can get a great drive and a sweet deal.

Any idea what the difference is in these two M4 64GB?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...148%2D524%2DTS

Only thing I see is different Model # (but same specs) and the more expensive one says it includes a 3.5 inch adapter. Doesn't seem like a $40 dollar difference to me. Wonder what else is different because that price is fantastic considering you don't even have to send in a rebate!
Dude, just send in your order before the price gets adjusted, there practically giving you the drive @ cost with free shipping on top of that, don't waste too much time analyzing.

It's not a Crucial, but OCZ via Microcenter has a 128GB SATAIII SSD for $100 post rebate. I've read about some issues with some OCZ ssd's (and I've experienced them first hand) but once I updated the firmware it operated flawlessly. http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0381969

The one for $169 (which is listed as $169), includes a hard drive transfer kit. The one without is $129, but is now sold out.

Of course there sold out, check back maybe tomorrow or even tonight and they will be magically back in stock and with there corrected higher price of course, it was a error that got corrected, but as always The Egg honors there own internal errors.

Got the 128GB drive just before they sold out.

Would the 64GB be enough for 7MC DVR duties? I plan on using WHS to move the recordings over to server every night, but I'm still looking at 6-8 hours of recordings daily, that would be sitting on the HTPC.

Why do you keep saying it was an error? Ever heard of a sale? The thing was on slickdeals since 4am. To me that is why it sold out.

An error would have been a 64GB for $6.49 or 128GB for $12.99.

Conservatively speaking, one hour of recorded content can be up to 8 GB. So 8 hours of content can take the entirety of the drive by itself, leaving no space for the OS.

I can't see a scenario where using a small SSD for HTPC DVR duties would be beneficial in lue of a decent sized notebook HDD.

In my experience, no. Between the live tv buffer and recording, it was always complaining about there not being enough space. Since it has to finish the recordings and then do the sweep, even one 2 hour HD recording would not fit. Adding a small drive to each HTPC and moving the recorder storage to that drive alleviated that issue.

A 128GB drive would probably be enough however (at the time and probably now much more expensive than 64GB SSD + small HDD).

One other thing too about a local drive, I keep all copy-protected recordings on the local drive instead of the server so I am not clicking on stuff I can't view. My data drives are 250GB 2.5" drives.

I use a 64GB SSD with a 1TB HDD that was sitting around unused. The entire 1TB HDD is for recorded TV. All other media resides on a server.

If it was a sale instead of an error then it would have been advertised, If you advertise those deals as your main headliner then you could also put them on a page with other lesser deals, that's the way The Egg works a couple of Sweetheart Headliners that gets you attention then a lot of so so deals, Marketing 101. I never got any notice of that kinda insane price and I get all there promotions via email, There newsletter promotion for today was : Newegg All-Star System & Flash Memory Sale: Headlined by Gskill Sniper 8GB 1866 DDR Ram along with some other deals the Crucial SSD should have been included in the promotion since the price change for the all the items listed on that page and the Crucial M4 were all changed at the same time last night, yet the M4
was never advertised or promoted anywhere else, that's why I deduce it was an error of some sort.

i'm still doing research on SSDs, but the impression i'm getting is that using an SSD for a live tv buffer would have a significant negative effect on the life of the SSD. i think you'd be better off using a hdd for recordings.
