Does Netflix have access to current HBO/Showtime/etc. programming

I'm planning on making the jump to Netflix tomorrow and would really love to get rid of all my current movie channels (HBO, Showtime, & Starz).

Problem is I like Game of Thrones and True Blood on HBO and I would hate to have to wait until the season is over before I could watch them.

Could you tell me if Netflix has access to the current programming as it's being run for the first time, or does it take weeks/months/years before they offer it?

No, you have to wait until they come out on disc(if ever).

Guess, I'll just be dropping Showtime and Starz then and keeping HBO. Thanks.

IIRC, there is no Showtime on Netflix and Starz will disappear soon from Netflix and will not return.

Netflix will carry the dvds of pay tv series when they are released on disc. Game of Thrones will be released on dvd in March.

Instant Watch however, won't be streaming these shows, as the pay channels have taken an overly adversarial position against Netflix (due to NF's rise in popularity in such a short time). Showtime stopped selling streaming contracts for it's shows to Netflix last spring. Starz ended their contract with NF last fall, and as of yesterday, all the titles they control internet streaming to, have been removed.

HBO basically said they will never do streaming with Netflix and now they won't even sell them DVDs.

Starz is gone as of today (but it wasn't in HD anyways).

They have older Showtime stuff like some of Dexter, Weeds, Californication but not the last 2-3 seasons of each.

Luckily I get Showtime included in my cable package and I just snag HBO content at my local library.

Did a search on Amazon, Blu-ray only, and stopped looking after more than 100 titles showed up. Did not bother with DVD.

I believe jamieva meant they won't sell Netflix discs at wholesale, they will have to buy them retail.

Got it. That is the same thing Redbox and Blockbuster is doing for Warner titles on DVD & Blu-ray. They will not go along with the 56 day window.

Vudu recently got a lot of HBO series (past seasons) but they are "own" not rent. They also got some of the WB classic movies.
