Official Sharp AQUOS LC-80LE844U Owners thread - Page 41

I replaced an older rear-protection unit with the 80" Sharp. It required me to cut the stone wall a bit, but otherwise the retrofit turned out pretty well.

That my friend is the absolute coolest setup I've ever seen.

Nice setup

Nice setup. Love the contrast between the wall and the tv. So, does it kill the rear projection?

Well it could definitely be sub par image processing in the TV. Assuming the PS3 is feeding 1080p (which would not undergo processing in the TV) and the stb is sending 720p and/or 1080i, both of which have to be converted to 1080p, then the problem could definitely be with the set's processing.

Not saying there isn't a setting or combination of settings on the TV that couldn't be dialed in to have the image processing look good. But based on what is being described it seems to me that the processing is the likelier problem than the content itself.

Yep that's what I thought it's a bug in software ......that crops up on a FIOS signal ??
OR it's a faulty hardware issue

BUT really it will boils down to is it certain sets ?>? OR just sets on a FIOS signal path ??
as it seems to be isolated sets , unless it's just on a FIOS signal THEN i'd lean to software being a problem .
On a 844 in general, the problem is not a wide spread issue as there are Huge numbers of Happy Campers out there ,
I do recall that there are reports that some members had issues with the 632 80" that were on a FIOS signal also .....

Why wouldn't I see this on other channels? I only saw this on select channels and Law and Order was especially noticeable. In fact I'm watching Forrest Gump on TNTHD and I'm not seeing any jittery scenes like I was with Law and Order which was also on TNTHD.

WELL FELLAS>>>GUESS WHAT??? I joined the club...The damaged club...DAMN!!

Box had 3 holes in the front and one in the back...covered over with clear tape...I would assume by one of the shippers..it changed hands like 3 times I guess comin from Abes of Maine....Thank God for this thread and listening to how you guys checked your deliveries....

I pulled the box away and tore the cover away and the screen looked perfect...The delivery guys were amazed talking about how big the tv looked and I was just excited wanting to get the tv inside...I was just gonna sign for it and then remembered this thread and told the guys I was going to plug it in...

Thank God...This sucks... So depressing....Now I gotta wait probably another week or two and go through this crap all over again...It is what it is I guess...

I cant even believe these companies have the Gaul to deliver it with that many holes in it...... any reason you didnt go US Appliance, East Coast, Pauls or Cleveland
post #1212 of 3262
^^ I don't think the seller really matter, as any1 that uses a shipping company has damage potential...This was my first time buying from Abes, but they actually have a lot of good reviews...and not to mention they utilize buysafe, which I thought was a total gimmick, but a few days after I bought the tv, the price actually dropped $40, and I sent in a claim and buysafe paid me $40 through paypal...think that's pretty cool reason enough right there...Anyway, there closed until Sunday...I hope I can rectify this asap....
sorry wasnt saying it would have made a difference just curious. hope you get it sorted

I have never seen an LED look like that after being damaged. Normally there are multicolored lines going horizon and vertical.

Thats criminal. We're seeing quite a few broken LCD's lately via shipping. I wonder if the manufacturer would accept such a high rate of shipping induced damages? Seems like at least 50% of the owners have had more than 1 TV's delivered until they'd get a good set

So what are u thinking? Manufacturing issue? Like I said the panel looked perfect, but with the amount of damage and holes the box sustained I can only believe it was damaged due to shipping
post #1218 of 3262
The box my latest one was delivered in had a hole at least that big. I still have the box, if anyone wants pictures. The set is perfectly fine.

The cracked set, the box was immaculate...

EDIT: and just looking at those pictures, the glass looks like it shattered. Is that what we're seeing?
those are gut wrenching pics

no it's wierd...the white is actually what the tv was showing when I turned it on...The glass was intact, but when i turned it on I saw that...

Thanks for the compliments everyone. No comparison to a rear-projection. I certainly dont miss the annoying calibration process of my old RP unit. Plus this 80" is twice the size as my old 55". So I am thrilled every time I watch it.

That sucks, after waiting for it all this time. So did you refuse to sign for delivery or did they just take it back? Hopefully your next set is perfect.

Cnet review for Sharp LC-70LE745U is not good (lighter black levels ,color accuracy fell short of the cheaper 640U , 3D obvious ghostly outline ) will 80LE844U have same issue?

C/net is not what it used to be & most if not all their "Reviews" of Sharp products are Negative & I suspect that for some $ reasons they are biased . As the Sony & Sammy reviews always are "glowing " .
They were bought out a few years back by a major corporation & since then they have not been the completely honest ,open & unbiased as the Old C/Net used to be when that website was a start-up .
I now do not invest any worth to ANY of their So Called reviews as I view them as advertizements now

I'm very happy with the black levels on 844u. Picture looks very good out of box.

I've watched few 3d blu-ray movies and 3d channel programs on DTV and to me 3d works very good. I like the fact there is 2d option on the glasses for those who don't care fir 3d while allowing others to still watch 3d. Also compared to my Sony XBR60LX900 3d is less finicky about position of your head. With the Sony if I tilt my head even slightly 3d image would be out of focus but with Sharp I can even watch laying on the couch.

Also tried few 3d games of my ps3 and again it looks very good and with bigger screen I feel more immersed in the 3d feel.

Overall I'm very happy with both 2d & 3d on 844u.

Well, I picked up my 844U yesterday from Best Buy. When I saw the two kids coming down the aisle with my tv on a BASIC 2 WHEEL DOLLY I was stunned! It wouldn't have mattered if the tv had been sitting up right like normal but the left side of the box was on the dolly and the right side of the box was pointing towards the ceiling!

Then, they layed the box down flat and slid it in the back of the truck. I told them about how your not supposed to lay these flat during transport and they said "It's ok. That only applies to Plasma's. If anything happens, you have 30 days to bring the tv back".

Well, I thought for sure when I got home I was going to plug it in and see something like what happened to Islandborn. However, everything turned out great and the tv had no problems that I could find.

The PQ out of the box making no adjustments at all blew away my 73" Mitsu. easily. Very very impressed. I can't remember but did anybody post any settings for the 844 yet? I know everyone uses Suzook's settings for their 632 but will his settings work just as good for the 844?

I have not tried 3D yet but after reading what SonyHome just posted above sounds like I will be impressed with that as well.

I think most are using Suzook's setting. I've also tried some settings posted on the 70" 847u but to me I really like the out of box User setting with OPC and 240hz turned on. Setting OPC allows for viewing in both day and night lighting without having to keep tweaking or switching settings.
