I have only seen them online. Lowes has them but they are more $$. Cheaper to buy on Amazon

off the wall even with my sanus LL11 thin mount

Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought two of these LED lighting kits from Amazon Prime - (for 2 TVs). Since I might return one or both if they do not work out would it be feasible to lightly scotchtape them in place just to see how they look and work without removing the adhesive backing and attaching them to the TV (might make removing them and returning to Amazon a bit easier)?

To answer your questions, its fairly easy.
First off there is no wrong time to have the bias light on....well except day time.
Movies, TV even static shots benefit from.bias light. However the purpose of bias light is two fold. Its to keep ANY direct light off the screen and reduce eye strain. As a side benefit, it typically ads depth and pop to the sets pq.
Now there is always going to be those who disputes its value but ask yourself this, do movie theaters have lights on during the movie?
The biggest challenge is probably getting used to a dark viewing environment but once you do your pq and eyes will appreciate it
As for the remote. I'm not sure if a harmony can be mapped but you could always try. What many people do is use a remote trigger (or Avr if it has a plug) so the bias comes on when the avr does
Good luck and feel free to post any more questions

My lights save the same purpose but also are bright enough (75watts ea) to type by. They are fully dimable through a box I assembled from Home Depot. My Harmony One did learn all the light commands easily. I do like that surrounding glow you get with your lights.

well I am going to be honest, I am still struggling to get a consistent PQ across sources. I have found that this set handles 1080p and HDX streams quite well. Problem is that anything less is a mixed bag for me. While I tend to try and watch higher grade sources, that isnt always
possible and you are subject to varying feeds. I am a full 14 feet from this set and I have seen instances that the PQ is slightly substandard compared to my 80 632 that is allowing only 10 feet of distance.

Its a keeper for sure but I have to be 100% honest that if an 80 Elite or bigger comes knocking..............

I also might add that the 10 point and proper calibration may do away with much of my issues.

while I wouldnt say this is 100% ideal bias its better than any light source facing the screen. Of course I assume you have those blinds closed during critical viewing smile.gif

Critical viewing usually only occurs at night so my windows and curtains are rarely closed (I like the ocean breeze). The Sharp serves as primary PC monitor duty during the day, thus the 23" news screen.

Plug and Pray

Just do a scan for screen cracks and defects , also make sure the side/corners/bottom of the tv have not been cracked . If you have a camera handy take some pictures while the delivery people are there so if you do see something later that you didn't catch you have some backup.

P..S. Big props to Robert at Value Electronics for helping me get into this new monster

I installed the light kits on both TVs last night - really like them and the look it gives the TV. I was concerned that they wouldn't work well since my TVs are mounted in front of built in cabinets but it looks quite good and still provides plenty of light (i actually prefer having the intensity dialed down a bit). I would post pics but being a bit on the OCD side I am bothered with the 3 foot gap at the bottom of the TV so I ordered another reel of lights and a strip to strip connector - will post final pics after these are installed. Thanks Suzook - very easy and inexpensive solution as well as looking quite professional.

Hi guys-I am torn between a Sharp 70-80 set and a Projector setup. I have a room about 17 ft in length by 13 ft wide, so I believe that it can accommodate a pj, but I am wondering if any of you either had or considered a pj before going with the Sharp, and if so, why did you go with the Sharp.
By the way, what is your viewing distance fro the screen. I have seen the THX calculator say that optimal is 8ft for 80" screen-seems way too close to me.
What do you think?
Also, are there any differences between the 70 and 80 models?
Thanks
I have the 80" and we are about 12' from the screen, I don't think I would sit any closer than 10'
I went with the Sharp instead of a projector for simplicity.
My kids use this tv for most of their watching and they like that they can just turn on the tv and cable box

Why not both?? biggrin.gif

If I have to choose, I think I would go with TV over PJ for convenience's sake.

the 70"ers are edge lit LED & the 80"ers are full Array back lighted LED models , there is a big difference as some of the 70" models do have clouding & un-even lighting issues

I just received my 2nd 844 from US., The first had damage on the lower right corner which I didn't find until it came out of the box. Now I set up the new one and there is this small dark triangle in the lower right corner and this weird line that's about 12 inches that shows up on all the inputs448

Had the same thing on mine - need to return or go thru Sharp (send picture in with your complaint) and they will replace entire unit.

Was your replacement better? Just got off the phone with Sharp. Need to send in pictures, but it's obviously defective right?

Just to update- Been enjoying my set for the last few weeks...Still tweaking settings here and there buy over all I am very happy. blu ray material looks so fantastic....Cable tv has the usual issues. Some channels like hgtv, food network, discovery look freakin' great, but other channels look a little off. For some reason, my 63" sammy plasma handled HD cable better then the Sharp does. Still, I love the tv. It will definately tie me over for the next few years until a new format (4k,oled) come into mainstream

That is definitely the same defects I had - if u do a search on some of my posts from April and u can see pix of the same type of defects as u have only worse - I sent in pix to Sharp and they replaced it forthwith. I will send u contact numbers by private message.

This model has so many defects, and problems I certainly hope Sharp is going to eliminate this model and come out with a next generation 80 in. I was just going to purchase this TV till I saw yet another defect in my TV post. Very disappointing, hope a new model is going to be out soon since I have the money saved up for it.

Cracked LCD panels of course can't be blamed on Sharp - if my memory serves me correct the type of defect reported (screen triangles and white lines etc) has affected a total of 4 people on this forum and seems very intermittent-sporadic. I think the current set of defects may be related to poorly controlled environment in the assembly process. A brand new model would have it's own set of problems also.

Has anyone had any problems with NetFlix, or any other ip video service - dropping video only? I am consistantly dropping video not audio - on the hardwire side - sometimes on the wireless, and I have totally elimanated network and data packet problems. I think there are problems with the internals on the NIC side. Can anyone offer some insight? Also think in general that this is a great TV, but was also wondering if they are discontinuing this after such a short production run what will they replace it with?
