Cracked LCD panels of course can't be blamed on Sharp - if my memory serves me correct the type of defect reported (screen triangles and white lines etc) has affected a total of 4 people on this forum and seems very intermittent-sporadic. I think the current set of defects may be related to poorly controlled environment in the assembly process. A brand new model would have it's own set of problems also.
Well I have received 2 screens, both had the white lines (in various forms) and one had the line and the triangle.

I think there are problems with the internals on the NIC side. Can anyone offer some insight? Also think in general that this is a great TV, but was also wondering if they are discontinuing this after such a short production run what will they replace it with?

I'm using wireless N 5g to stream netflix on 844u and I have not had any issues. I have not tried wired. I also have 2 other TVs, 3 phones, 2 tablets, 2 PS3 and 3 computers all streaming netflix over wireless without issues.

As far as this model being discontinued have not heard that. I'm sure it will happen eventually but I wouldn't think that would happen this soon. I did read in this thread there was production delay which was not related to any specific issues. I'm surprised there hasn't been more frequent firmware updates on this set.

It is time Sharp steps up and does something about their quality control problems. A dis-appropriate amount of defects seem to plague this model. Just looking back on this thread, its like a lucky crap shoot if you get a working model.

If it works the consensus is that this TV is awesome. I just don't have the time or patients to hope for a working model.

Sharp should scrap this model and try again. I only wish others like Sony, Samsung, or LG would start producing 80 in plus models. The quality control on Sharp is truly despicable. Yes I am pissed, here I have the money and Sharp seems to be the only company making a 80 in. But I still refuse to purchase with so many problems still occurring.

Well i am running a wireless 1gb/s switch and have the video drops wired or wireless, it is not a bandwidth issue. I am sure that I read the 844u was being discontinued - I this not confirmed? when is the next firmware to be released?
Also I must note that I almost exclusively watch ip tv - IE NetFlix, or similar so the NIC see much use. I think that the NIC ought to be designed for continuous duty. But it is definately a NIC issue, no question. It is not the IP service, or the bandwith - I have 100MB/S fiber dedicated to my server - So I am quite certain that the tv is barely touching the bandwidth.

I would suggest you try a different router possibly to troubleshoot. I use Asus N66U dual band 900 and it works very good.

Have you tried resetting both the router & modem ???
my connection was running slow & then intermittent
a reset of both fixed it ,
I'm wired .......cool.gif

Just a word of warning to owners/future owners

I have had this TV for about a month now and it's been sitting on the stand.
Yesterday we hung the TV and could not get the screws out to release the base.
They were frozen in there so we had to drill them out.
If you are getting this TV and putting it on the stand, I would use some lube on the screws so you can remove them easily in the future

Is this photo with the 3 ft gap in lighting, or with the extra lights? In other words is this one kit of 16 ft as sold by Amazon?

I have had no problems I am wired with Ethernet , haven't tried the built in wireless. Nothing but HD movies and never any video drops. Now if you have someone in your house running bittorent or other file sharing software you will have issues with streaming.

The problems with the sharp have been so far limited to the screen cover . The LCD and the TV itself have been free from defects so far.

I have purchased and returned so many Samsungs for back lighting and clouding issues that I just gave up on the brand.

Thats not to say that these issues aren't real but at least it isn't on you to lug it back to the store. Sharp will take care of it at their expense.

I asked Sharp for news about the promised firmware update to resolve the Browser flash issues.

Jasa: We will be releasing an update but we have not received information from Japan on the release date
Jasa: The firmware will address multiple glitches

So it is still in the works, I am wondering what other "Glitches" they were referring to .

I assume you were referring to the LED Wholesalers 16.4' LED strip on amazon that originally was posted by Suzook (also pictures of same). I am the one that mentioned about 3 foot gap and obtaining an extra 5M LED reel. Well after several attempts I have finally got it right and will post pictures when the second TV is done. To make a long story short - if you want to fill in the extra 3 foot gap (TV measures about 19' around) you need to get an extra kit instead of a single reel. The single reel that was sent to me was a tan-orange strip with the LED lights emitting a warm white. My original kit actually had been shipped with the waterproof LED reel which is a white background and the color of the white LED was a cool white - probably somewhere between 5500 and 6500 K which is what is recommended for bias lighting (6500 K is supposed to be the best). If you order through Amazon use this supplier: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040FJ27S/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A1FOK4HZY6VRTZ then go in and look for the "10 new" tab, click on it and look for "Lucky Dog"- other suppliers may not be sending the waterproof LED strips. Unlike other suppliers the LED reels I got had a male end 4 prong terminal on one end and a female end 4 prong terminal on the other end (not four bare wires as is shown on some kits on one end).I have just completed one TV and am waiting on a four prong connector (male/male) that will change the other end of the reel. This way there is no stripping or soldering involved in order to use the end section to fill in the gap for the second TV.

To me it was worth it to add the extra three feet since both TVs "float" in front of custom cabinets and it looks quite professional lighted all the way around. Depending on where you have the TV mounted you may not need the strips on full power - it should be dimmed somewhat.

Well new main board, and video board on order - should be here in a few days - maybe this will resolve the issue....

No problems with bandwidth at all - when every thing is off it does the same thing - video looses signal, or screen looses power from main board, or ip looses packets between NIC and Video interface resulting in video drop .....

Anybody with word on when the new firmware will be out? - The servicer mentioned that my new video board will have a firmware update that was compiled last week.

Did you have tech come out to troubleshoot?
If you are coming up 3 ft short I'm assuming you are running the light strip as close to the edge of TV as possible. What if you were to come in roughly 4.5" all the way around that should make up the 3ft. shortage. You may need to run the strip a little brighter than normal but it should still give you the desired affect. I haven't installed mine yet but that is what I'm going to try.

When I called, they told me I had 60 days from the date of sale to get the $219 three year extended price. You can get it still after the 60 days but the price goes up. If you sign up for the free Aquious plan, you get 3 more months on top of that for a total of 4 years 3 months coverage.

If your TV is mounted against a wall I don't see why that wouldn't work - in my instance the TV floats in front of a custom cabinet - I need the light around the edge so that it not only highlights the cabinet but it throws diffuse light into the room (has a rather pleasing effect). You might try taping it down rather than removing the backing from the LED strip to see how it looks first.

Well yes and no - once the tech called and asked me to explain the situation and understood the depth of my troubleshooting - he just ordered the parts........

has anyone has this set calibrated yet? If so can you share settings.

I just simply cant get a proper picture settings that I can use on most sources. 1080p HDX streams on vudu look really good, everything else is downhill from there.

I have even tried tweaking my 632 settings to no avail

Have you considered "unblockus.com"? Five bucks a month to make it look like you are in the US. I had Netflix in Guam a year before it was allowed. biggrin.gif

Bought my TV from Best Buy which bumped me up to Premier Silver membership for a year.
One of the benefits is a Free TV Calibration

Going to get them to come out and do this. I will post the settings

I just had it calibrated. I think it looks great. Not sure I should share the settings plus every set is different.

will check this out when i head back home from work. a friend of mine suggested dydns or something like that? vudu and netflix requires subscription right? i am using a samsung blu ray which has apps to...but the stupidity is it requires wired lan or wireless adapter(not included, expensive).
just got my truedepth glasses and sharp glasses yesterday. both, i found the plastic frame flimsy or low quality...looks fragile.

dun have 3d blu ray disc yet, hence test it with 2d to 3d converted. both works fine, but i think the sharp glasses were a little better.

anyone can advice any settings for 3d viewing? depth etc...
