Thanks for the info. I guess it is up to each person. The stand (base) must be very strong to hold the 80 incher. smile.gif

Mine is on the wall on a sanus XF-228. It is wonderful. It articulates left and right, up and down and tilts, which I don't need since mine is only 20" from the floor.

I'm another "victim" of the power off problem. When I first noticed it, it went off for 30-40 seconds. More recently, it is only momentary. Glad to see I'm not alone as there is a better chance they will develop a fix. I'll add my voice to Sharp. I'd like to hear that they have a fix before sending a technician. One cause that I have not seen discussed and it is only a guess is that maybe there is a "power on solonoid" that doesn't hold on too tight or overheats and drops out momentarily.

hmm i have to pay more attention, but i notice with cable i get the blink sometimes, but don't think i've had the issue with my oppo bluray player yet.

Please call Sharp to report the problem. Plus you will document your problem for any future warranty support.

I am really concerned about all the reports on the power shutoff. I will have to go to a waiting pattern to see how this works out..

Anyone have any insight if Sharp will be updating the 80 incher with the black brushed bezel? Pre-release specs said the 844 was supposed to have the brushed black but ended up releasing in the same exact bezel as the 632. Heck even most or all the new 70 inchers got the black brushed treatment .

Sorry to hear that your still having probs...If you got back to around pages 30-40 you will see I had probs too...not with the tv, but with shpping damage....It's just the luck of the draw and nature of the beast with buying electronics...I never had the "lines/triangle" issues like you, but I have one stuck pixel(not even noticable) and some faint clouding in the bottom right of the screen...No one set is going to be perfect....I would say, just keep sending it back until you find one that you are happy with...

Mine is on a stand on top of a Zvox 580 sound bar. I've had it for about a month and haven't had any problems at all. I am thinking about mounting it to the wall though just because I think it would look better. Also, does anybody have a recommendation for a calibrator in Maryland? I was thinking about letting Best Buy do it since it would be free anyway. I'm using Suzook's settings and they seem pretty spot on. The blues and the reds are really amazing and are what stand out to me the most but I'm sure it could use some fine tunning.

How long have you guys had your set before you noticed the power off problem? I've had my set 3 weeks. It's being replaced tomorrow for a panel issue. Now, I have been on vacation since my set arrived so the set has been on 12 or more hours a day for the last 3 weeks. In all that time I never witnessed this re-booting problem until yesterday. It did it twice in 4 hours. I was watching CNN, the screen and sound goes completely out, then it comes back on. The HDMI imput pops up in the corner like when I turn it on in the morning so that proves to me it is shutting off then turning back on. What I find strange is that it turns itself back on. Would it not make more sense that it would shut itself off and you would have to hit the power button to turn it back on? Also, why did it take 3 weeks for this to happen? I'm just hoping to get a good set and will keep asking for replacements until I do.

I experienced a very weird glitch last night on my TV set while watching FIOS broadcast. Some weird flashing white pixel artifacts appeared on the screen and wouldn't go off even when I turned off the FIOS box and turn it back on. I unplugged the FIOS box from the outlet for a minute and turned it back on and the flashing thing was still there. Even when I changed the channel the same pulsing white pixels wouldn't go off. During the flashing pixels, screen would go on and off while the TV was still on. Also the audio on my receiver would go off.

I have my FIOS box connected via HDMI directly to the TV and Optical to the receiver. I fixed the flashing pixels/no audio problem by simply unplugging the HDMI cable from the TV and plugging it back in. Did any of you guys experience something similar on your sets? My set is about 1 week only. Manufacturing date, September 2012.

Well...damn...add me to the shutting off issue...WTF is going on with this TV? It has to be some type of inherent design flaw on this set, as so many of us are experiencing it. I wonder if the problem is something that can be fixed with a firmware update?I will call Sharp tomorrow, at least so I can document my issue. So what are u guys planning on doing that have this problem? I still owe a grand on the Tv on my Credit card. I am sure Abes of Maine ins't gonna help other then direct me to Sharps warranty dept. I wonder what Sharp tends to do, other then having some 3rd party tech come out and possible do more damage then fixing....This kinda crap sux.....I probably shoulda stayed with Samsung....

Oh ya, and what Number are you guys calling for assistance? I see the number for product support, but I figure it's gonna be sum general rep on the other end that has no clue to our issues let alone what model Tv we have. I would like to speak to an actual tech who knows about the Tv's we have and also is educated enough to answer questions without guessing and giving sum BS info

I just called the regular number. I was eventually routed to a tech who was nice but basically knew nothing. His only idea was to do a factory reset. I declined because I didn't want to lose my calibration settings plus he admitted he was only guessing that it would help. He also claimed it was not a known problem. so PLEASE call Sharp to register your problem. I wish there were some way to get some real attention from Sharp on this matter.

So I google "Sharp tv turning off by itself" and I find that I am seeing a lot of forum posts on this problem. Not just our tv model but different Sharp tv's. Post dating back to like 2008-2009

After reading, ppl describe the same problem we have and it stemming from a bad power supply to bad cooling fans to issues with capacitors on the pcb...

This does not sound good at all for us I think. I really don't think this is a problem Sharp will own up to, and take responsibilty for if this problem has been going on for awhile...

Here's some links to what I read-

I had last year's 70-inch Sharp 735U and used it extensively without the restart issue being present on that model, so I am confident the issue is limited to this model. The links you sent seem to be isolated issues.

Can someone recommend a mount for the tv. It does not have have to tilt, swivel or articulate? The TV will not move. Looking for something sturdy that wont break the bank.

Well, had my 844 replaced this morning and I believe I received a good panel. Don't see any flaws in the screen, thank god. Now, I just have to wait and see if I develop the shut off issue. My first set was 3 weeks old before it ever did it.

What other problems were you having with the first tv?

The new set is a marked improvement. The noise (actually the quality of the Direct TV signal) is still there but the new set doesn't "appear" to amplify it. At 11' it's not obvious but you can see at 3-4 feet. The picture actually looks like HD now! smile.gif
I haven't called Sharp yet but I assume my extended Sharp warranty will apply to the new set.
Rick

For anyone getting a replacement TV with an existing Sharp Warranty. You need to call the warranty phone # and update your serial #. Sharp doesn't do this automatically.

Just the rebooting issue. It never happened for 3 weeks then it did it twice 2 days before replacement, then once the day before.

Guys I got to tell ya that I had REAL plans of buying my 80" before December of this year but after reading all the problems people are having I think I'll just hold off. Three months ago I purchased a 55" LED Best Buy brand television and have had "0" problems. Did you hear that, "0" problems!! And it only cost $729. smile.gif

Somehow spending around $5000 for a Sharp with all the problems that have been reported here frankly scares the crap out of me. mad.gif Sure I can understand a problem here and there but my Lord it seems that Sharp's 80" has a crop load.

And can you imagine spending additional $$$ to have it calibrated only to have it wiped out due to one of the many problems
discussed here. eek.gif

Just had to get this off my chest. cool.gif

Or you could consider the 80-632U for less money. it has proven to be extremely reliable with very few genuine complaints. I've had mine for a good year and have had zero problems. I expect this set will be discontinued soon so it may be getting a little harder to find.

I agree with the trolling. How in the world are you going to come in here and post that info, and don't have the decency to answer a few questions or even if he didn't have full answers, at least acknowledge that as well. He's obviously posted in other parts of the forum after he posted this info in here so....................................
