If that's true then the new tv is broken. I guess I'll have to call Sharp.

As far as I know they set automatically but the cable is for sure sent at 1080 and the tv is reading 480i for that too

You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about these sets, but I'm curious why you think the panel on the 844 is almost the same as the 632. I waited for the 844 because I wanted the latest tech, and it seems that it's a completely different panel (native 240Hz, Quattron....).

Actually the quattron implementation is the only thing that worries me. The 632 has a wonderful pq where as the 7 series line its known to cause issues really trying to dial in the set.

Lets hope sharp has learned some lessons

Hi Dean, I remember you mentioned Canadian price earlier. Where did you find your great deal? Is it a Canadian retailer? I know we are not supposed to talk price here but could you post your price on the 80" pricing thread?

I live in BC, Canada and I just learned that a retailer here Visions Electronics, has decided to not carry Sharp any more. This is a huge blow because Visions generally has better deals than BB and Futureshop.

I pulled the trigger myself this morning. couldn't resist. All those vendors were price warring so once there was one left standing I knew that was over and I couldn't resist.

I did the same thing yesterday morning and watched the prices keep tumbling during the day (between 2 vendors) - luckily I ordered thru a sales rep who assured me I have a 30 day price match (since the price is down $ 87 in one day). You probably bought it from the same vendor as there is truly one left standing and now all the rest are $500 - $700 higher. I think we got a good deal especially considering a brand new model and hasn't really hit store shelves (Best Buy 0 and some other stores just a few).

So I am guessing that this tv does not come with any 3d glasses. The PDF manual I read for this tv says glasses are optional. It only lists one part number AN3DG20. Searching online I am finding AN3DG20B, and AN3DG10S. Anyone got any ideas on what I should buy? I need four pair of glasses for my family.

From my research the 20B is rechargeable and is somewhat more comfortable. Also, found a halfway decent price online. Will have to wait a few days (after my credit card "recovers" from the 80LE844U purchase.

Click on the AV Science link (with the picture of the projector) at the top of the page and you'll see the Expand Universal 3D glasses on sale. You can verify but I'm pretty sure they're compatible with Sharp TV's.

Can anyone that has seen the 80844u in person, or has one in their home, tell me what the bezel and appearance looks like?....Does it have the Aluminum black brush bezel, or does the bezel and appearance look exactly the same as the base 632 model?....Thanks

The 844 has the glossy frame, it looks almost exactly like the 632, they had them side by side at a local store, the picture seemed slightly better overall on the 844, I noticed a little more detail on the flesh tones (both sets were playing Hugo from the same Bluray player.) but they had not been calibrated so they were both running some fairly noticeable torch mode.

TV has arrived!
Up and running with no obvious issues. All I've done so far is the initial setup and connected to the internet. Made a few quick tweaks to "Standard Mode" (OPC - off, reduced sharpness and backlight). Black levels look good to me (I look for dark suit jackets on male newcasters and tweak for dark as possible w/o loss of detail - yes crude I know).
Paid the delivery guy $20. He installed the TV stand and helped me get it on the coffee table (20"s high with center of screen at 44"s from the floor) which puts eye level almost dead on center.
Rick.

ps: How to post pic's from IPhone?

Looks good.

If you really want to blow them up, get a photobucket account and then upload. Choose the IMG code and just cut and paste

[Sun glare in upper right of screen.

As far as using as a computer display 80 inches is pushing the limits for text at 1080P.

that's odd...
I find that my text on the 632 is even better/sharper when seeing it on my HTPC > 632 80" than it was using my older 88UM 60" Sharp ..
do you have it set to dot by dot in view mode
post #240 of 3255
Yeah dot by dot. Here's the desk top again with Suzook's settings. What do you think?
His settings didn't address:
Color Gamut - standard or expanded?
10 Point setting - on/off?
Quad Pixel Plus 2 - Advanced/Standard?
With these settings the text is easier to see, they may have been washe out with the earlier settings???
Appears a little more green than blue?

Attachment 242465

I just looked at the actual desk top... It's a more natural bluish green than in the photo
