How much difference is there in the picture quality of the 80le844u versus the 80le632u. If I do not watch alot of 3d movies is it worth the upgrade ?

If you plan to watch ANY 3D movies it is worth it and if you plan to do ANY 3D gaming it is worth it. Having the option to do something you MAY do is better then not having the option. If you plan to upgrade in the next two years I would say don't do it get the cheapest thing you can get but if you plan to be living with it to the bitter end then get what you can now .

I find that because of the size and the execution of the 3D, it is a much more enjoyable as well as WOW on this TV then at the theather!

I got a 80" 632 as a stop gap display , I don't use 3D & I don't plan on it as it gives me a headache . The 632 80" is my jumbo "wait to see the new tech" display . I am waiting on 4K , Moth Eye , local dimming , Elite sharpness , blacks in a 90" I paid 3697.oo I expect to get 2K for the 632 when I up-grade to My above standards that I would lay some serious a $ wad on . In the mean time I can enjoy the 632 80"er while " wait " .
Everyone has different needs & budgets . Just do some research , know what your wants & needs are , know what all the features on the different models in the same size really mean .

I M H O . . . . . Stay away from settling on the 70" edge lighted models in any case (huge PQ issues on those models ) biggrin.gif

Thanks for all of the info. I took my wife in to look at the sharp 80. She said it was giving her a headache. Then she saw the LG 84 4k and liked that, go figure =) . Would you suggest an alternative to the 70 sharp since that is the direction I was heading until I can get a 4k down the road a bit.

I myself felt queasy when I 1st got my 80" when watching a really quick moving camera scene , that's jut a motion sickness thing with some people , you get used to it quite quick . I still get new people that come over say that it takes a few minutes to get used to the 80" .
was the 4K display showing a video that was moving less ?
All my male friends say the same thing " WoW Football must be awesome on that thing " wink.gif

Probably the default showroom setup.
Once you get it home and set the brightness, contrast, and back-light to comfortable levels, I find that these sets (I got the 80-632U) are very easy on the eyes, even with prolonged viewing.

i did on my 632...there is know question that it enhanced the pq, but i only could see the benefit from a static image. when viewing under normal content it was hard to discern. i therefore returned the product.

hey all. I did get the Darbee (havent been on here much) and within 24 hours of getting it, returned it.

It does add edge enhancement but in a very unnatural way imo. For my 632 and 844 its a no go

I was just seconds from buying that thing more than once , they were pushing the Darbee really hard here on AVS, a discount , a special period to save a wad of $ on the thing , then a new improved model . I kept thinking thou maybe it is just too good to be true . . . . . . rolleyes.gif

I was tempted as well. It looked like it would be quite inexpensive judging by the picture but once I saw the price, I decided I was still very happy with my DVDO iScan Duo. biggrin.gif

billdag ; I myself think you should stick with the DVDO iScan . I'm Very suspicious that the Darbee Darblet . Is just a tease / test model as Darbee has stated that a new model is about to be released with full features . BUT what I really feel is that Darbee released this small model to lock people in to them . as coming down the pike are huge improvements in processors from the "Other" MFGers like Marvel/QDEO , even DVDO Radiance . I think/feel that Darbee is trying to grab market share before these new techs do a huge slam on the Darby tech . the dual processor from Marvel/QDEO which is out preforming the DVDO iScan by leaps & bounds is over TWO years old , the DVDO iScan is even older . And these guys are heavy weights in the processors fields & have not been sitting on their hands . The new Oppo's use the newest form of the QDEO/Marvel dual processor .
Image processing is next biggest thing to the Audio Visual field with huge profits to be made from all of us in the HD huge display & projector enthusiast crowd .
Think about what we Sharp huge display guys always toss around ideas on how to make all the different levels in quality in source material look better on our displays . The MFGer that comes in with a reasonable costing solution to clean up a compressed HD signal is gonna make a huge wad of cash

I'm not about to jump on the 1st thing down the pipe ,

Couple threads ago someone asked if there was a keyboard that could be used with this tv - has anyone found one?

Lastly, I hate the sound on the TV - can anyone recommend a good (cheap) soundbar? Not a sick expensive one, but not a RCA if that makes sense. Thanks!

I agree, the sound from the 844 is lousy. I added a Yamaha YAS-101 sound bar and am very pleased with it for regular TV watching. Costco also sells it - identical unit but with a different model number.

For Over the Air reception, how bad is the pixalation if you sit say between 12 and 14 feet away? It is acceptable or you have to sit further back? Any ideas?

Just a quick question on the media player with this tv - Has anyone been able to play MVKs with an External NTFS hard drive connected directly to the USB port on this set?

I have a 3 year old Mits diamond series DLP, and while a pretty decent picture, when sitting side by side a full array LCD Sharp it looked pretty ancient. Just a little weary as it appears as though for 4k they are not trouble free and the company is possibly on the fritz. Just being cautious, but not much out there over 70" besides that new Samsung.

I am concerned about the company as well. There is current talk about Intel and Apple investing Sharp. They have some great intellectual property and manufacturing capabilities. I think they will survive in some form. As to your original question, I am very pleased with my set and I would definitely buy it all over again. I love the size and the PQ.

No question I would buy the TV again, love it. I will say that a professional calibration from Chad B. or a comparable professional is necessary IMO.

I'm using a 2.1 Logitech computer speaker setup for normal non-critical TV viewing. Works great and sounds much much better than built-in speakers. Can't remember the part number but the price was around $60 some years ago. It's got a 6.5" sub in a small wooden box that sounds surprisingly good. Rated at 48 watts RMS total.

I had the treaded diamond shadow issue when my set arrived. Called Sharp, sent a picture, a week later a new set arrived. They took the old set off the Sanus X228 wall mount, installed the new one, at no cost to me. It is great and definitely would purchase again. If you get a set with an issue, Sharp will make it right, at least they did with me and others on this forum.

Coming up on 2 weeks with mine. Love the set with the following caveats:
1) 3D has the typical LCD ghosting of really bright objects in a dark background. I replaced a Panasonic plasma 54VT25 which has great 3D with the Sharp.
This effect seems worst in 3D games: with 3D moves I don't notice the effect as much.
2) For gaming you *REALLY* need to be in game mode. If you are still in movie mode, the video processing delay screws up your aiming......
3) IT''s BLEEPING HUGE and will take over any space it occupies. Make sure your SO knows how big it *really* will be in the Family Room....

I am also a victim of the power off issue. Seems to only happen with the cable box not while watching blu ray movies. Called Sharp last night and she said that HDMI 1 should not be used for the cable box and switch to HDMI 3. Is this correct??? I will try this but don't think it will solve the problem. BTW she said this is the first she heard of this problem. YEAH RIGHT!!!!

When I had the shadow issue, which they replaced and I am very pleased, they said it was the first time they heard of it while there were at least 5 others on this forum alone with the same issue. I believe it is their standard response. Because this is a 3D set, I went with the 1.4 HDMI cables from my bluray and uverse box and never had the power off issue. You can buy them fairly cheap on Amazon so I would give it a try.
