Congrats! What a great price! I guess good things really do come to those who wait. smile.gif

I was going in to buy the 70, but the sales rep said for an extra $450 you can get the 80. Probably the easiest decision I've ever had.
Free delivery and 24 months. Didn't ask for 36

SonyHome's calibration looks good.
Plenty of pop to the picture, which I like.
Animation looks alive.
I have been gone for a few months over seas and was shocked to find that BEST BUY is no longer selling Sharp 90" or 80" sets! eek.gif
What has happened? You anyone give me a update on the situation mad.gif
I was planning to buy the 90" in November but now.............rolleyes.gif

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.
Not sure about the 90, but they are still selling the 80.
The 90" is still available, too...

I was getting a quote for a media room install yesterday and the rep started asking me about my 844U. I told him it looks awesome when watching blurays and football looks good too when the camera is zoomed in close like it does during replays etc. but when the camera is zoomed out during the actual play the image is just okay not great. I told him I would likely get the tv calibrated for that reason.

He pointed out that the tv looking great for movies and zoomed in shots during NFL games indicated the poor image during the play is due to the broadcast and not the TV. He makes a valid point but I'm still leaning towards having a calibration done.
It's the broadcast. It happens on my projector also.
Not every game but a lot of them. It's almost like a non HD camera is being used.
I am gonna get the calibration done too. It is a lot for the cal, but will definitely pay off for years to come. BTW, I like sonyHomes settings as well, in standard mode. Movie mode is still pushing green but that is ok. I know that when the cal gets done, it will be like having a new tv!!!

That's cause all they do in those close-ups is apply 'digital zoom' to the picture, so it's very blurry and pixelated.

NBC is 1080i and FOX is 720p, I would be curious to finally watch football on the monster and see how it looks, through my TX-NR1010 smile.gif

If it doesn't look stunning, I'd be coming after you Slappy!!! smile.gif

I was in 49ner heaven last season with my 632 outta my 1009 Onk
JUST remember to set the Onkyo to 1080P all the time so that it upscales everything
turn off all the auto and pass thru settings , in the ISF setting page set all to neutral.
this is important set the DirecTV box to output 1080P as well not auto .

the only time I really noticed a sh*tty picture was some of the ESPN Monday nite games , the 2nd game of the night was really bad , the Oakland Monday nite game PQ was REALLY BAD thru out the broadcast & worse I had to hear & look at Chris Bergman as well mad.gif he is OK when he's doing the News & Half Time But calling the game he was terrible .

if you set the cablebox to 1080p, it will upscale/deinterlace, don't we want the Onkyo doing that for us?
ISF settings where?
I'm not sure I follow the turn off all auto and passthru... in the Onkyo?

Thanks Slappster!

yaeh IIRC there is different setting in the onk about pass thru & auto . there is a ISF setting page deep in there somewhere look in the manual
on my DirecTV there is a auto & a 1080P setting if I set at 1080p then The onkyo doesn't keep showing the changes in the small box in upper right corner on commercials & then the programs when the resolution changes between programs , I have the older DVR HR22 box .
seems for me I get the best PQ by doing the above
you may find it's different if you have a different sat box

Gotcha, I guess more playing time for me... smile.gif

Actually the close up shots look great. It's the zoomed out view so you can see both the offense and defense when they lineup before the play that doesn't look HD to me. Replays and field level views are awesome though.

There are receivers that will help upscale the pic also I was reading the new onyko receivers have dou video processors suppose, to be best on market as far helping to upgrade pic quality more
post #3380 of 3622
What's the cheapest 7.2 ch onkyo with a duo video processor?

Onkyo
Yep,
& Bummer that model does NOT have the dual processor
seems they are taking the Balls outta the mid level Onkyo's
i am thinking I might have to buy a 1010 for the bedroom before they change those as well , my 807 in there now bit the dust this week (know HDMI problem ,I got a replacement HDMi board for it ) I'll fix the 807 & sell it ......
that 807 has a noticeable difference for the worse in PQ over the dual processors , hell there's even a noticeable PQ difference with my 5008 better than the 807 but no where near what the my 1009 does with the dual processors . the 5008 is in a box right now frown.gif .
Yeah, and I also don't like their naming scheme, it keeps changing in every gen... you can't really compare a family of let's say 8xx anymore, very confusing...

But Onkyo's $/feature is pretty good still.
I bought my TX-NR3008 at accessories for less and I love it. Plus i bought the 2 year extended warranty. However, since I got my new sharp 844, I am seriously considering selling it and getting the 1010.

I see there is a promo code box, but from what I read it seems to be about the lowest price I think.

Any insights?

IIRC some said they got a special offer in the mail after a long while, but I don't think you can beat $180/3yr, that is an incredible deal!

When I bought the display unit @ HHGregg, they quoted me $700/5yr, $500/3yr, which I immediately turned down.

You can't beat this price: OneCall via eBay.

Mine came in original box with all accessories, with full warranty.
I think with amazon you can beat that, no payments, and no interest for 12 months if that works for you.

just look in the used pricing on amazon its from one call of course.
... and you also get extra 3 months. I didn't wait for any offer, when I registered mine I got the $180/3yr deal, no talking or begging anyone.

A few weeks later I got an email with the contract attached.
