I have the 300 blu-ray and it's way the movie is done. I can watch other movies and shows and I don't see this. Also it's possible to get this from your setting. For example when I tried Suzook's setting I saw these grain on my hd channel but when I use default "User" setting same channel looks very clean.

I just got this TV last week and I'm seeing Graininess with almost all high def video specially Blu ray. Please see attached pictures for what I mean. Has anyone else seen this? Can someone please take a look and tell me what you think.

I see this with almost all blurays but more so with movies like:
- 3:10 to Yuma
- Matrix
- 300
- Crash

I do NOT see this with any of the animated movies like Cars. I do not see this with Avatar either.

I am using fixed dynamic mode most often.

Here is what I have tried so far without any success:

- viewed all modes
- turned down brightness, contrast and sharpness with little effect

Thanks all in advance.

Look for my posts from 3 weeks ago. I too tried all the settings. Took Direct TV out of the picture, eliminated the AVR to no avail... My picture sucks This "noise/grain is so obvious on any screen that has dark images. Not only movies it's there all the time no matter the source or type of show. I too called Sharp and had a Tech visit Thursday April 26th. I just called the Shop today and the "main" board is in but the "other board" is on back order with no shipping date yet. If this was the "normal" picture quality for this set a lot more people would be complaining. As Fastslappy said he's never seen that much 'grain" on his set. I'll keep you informed of my journey.

Hello Forum,

First, thank you for everyone's posts. I use this forum regularly to find good settings for my devices. Never had a problem so this is my first post. Hope someone can help me.

Has anyone had problems getting wifi setup? I seem to be missing something -- I go to Network Setup - I've tried both automatic and manual. When I go to manual, choose wireless, try the connection test and it just keeps saying "testing connection" until the screen disappears after a while and no access.

I do not see anywhere to search for wireless networks which I find very strange.

I plugged ethernet in and that seemed to work after a strange setup procedure as well.

I have the latest firmware. Any advice?

Thanks,
Will

Thanks to another thread on Sharp, I was able to get the answer to my question. Here is a nice line for google: Sharp 80" wifi setup: Change input mode to "TV" and the internet setup options are different. Then it will match what it shows in the manual and allow you to search for your networks.

Sharp has the most unintuitive menus I've ever used!
Still setting up the tv, its beautiful so far.

Well a Sharp authorized tech person is coming to see my TV tomorrow to verify the spots I'm seeing as I guess it wasn't inclusive from the pictures I sent to Sharp. Oh well, just delays the process a bit. I'm sure he be able to report back with the details to Sharp.

Other than that I'm enjoying the TV a ton..and I don't see any graininess on my 300 Blu-ray with the TV.

Any more info on this? I'm looking to upgrade my Sony KDF-60XS955 60-Inch for one of these two 80-inch beasts.....and I'm trying to see if spending the extra $800-1300 is worth it. Thanks.

Sadly I don't think this is available. In fact Sharp remote doesn't even have a button to pull my Dish guide.

Oh i forgot, You are the Master - of baiters, and when you take a dump a distinct scent of floral arrangements waft throughout your house. SO what are you saying? I can only complain about how much the flatchometer relay isnt working on my 4k plus TV, No wait the 53rd hue to the 9th power - of white wont sync with my hoochin scope, or that the alignment of the stars wont coincide with my bank account so that I can get a 844 for 500.00? Or maybe this is a public forum, and i can ask about why Sharp is behind the game in the on screen guide systems with a premiere set, as some of us non fishers like to watch mortal vision.

No mine smells just as awful as yours. Why not just try and enjoy your set without looking for marginal issues. Lot of people would kill to have an 80

HEy fellas-Have been scouring this thread since day 1...I am very close to pulling the trigger on this tv...I was waitng for the Sammy 75 es8000 but at this point who knows if that model will ever see a store shelf...Anyway...I would just like to poll the current owners of this set and if you guys could chime in on any updates and if you are still blown away by the set, or have you been more disappointed with the results?...Mr. Cleveland just threw me a curve ball with his 90" comment, but at 10k msrp, if it's not local dimming, I definately have to pass...

It has an amazing picture when the input is clear but it magnifies imperfections because of the size. It has a lot of motion blur. If you freeze the frame, you'll see that the frame itself is blurry, but it takes getting used to.

Having owned a 55" Vizio full array local dimming set as well as the Sharp 80-632U I feel somewhat qualified to comment on the value of local dimming when compared to a set with a naturally very low black floor level......
Bottom line is this, and people have to remember that, local dimming Vs. a natural black floor level is really only of significant value in a dark or very near dark room when considering sets like the Sharp 80". It is not JET BLACK during dark scenes, but, it is VERY close. I watch with a little ambient light at night and although I am occasionally aware of a not quite black background, the vast majority of the time I am awed by the very high contrast, particularly with night scenes with street lights, illuminated buildings, etc.
Once you get into a normally lit room, there is NO visual difference between this set or a set with local dimming. They both appear totally black - darker in fact than the surrounding bezel. I know......I've tried. It goes without saying that Plasma sets come in a very distant third in daylight or well lit room conditions. All this, assumes, of course, that you've taken the time to set up the set properly, especially the back-light.
I won't get into details about local zone dimming except to say that it is not a perfect solution either - pumping, halos, loss of brightness during some scenes all subtract from the viewing thrill of having such a set.
I much prefer a set like this Sharp which has a superb, non-gimmicky, very dark floor level.
7-1/2 Months of joy so far and STILL THRILLED!!!!!

I think that Sharp assumes (quite rightly) that virtually everybody that buys this set will have cable. As far as I know, cable providers all include some form of TV Guide. I can't imagine buying this set and watching it with an antenna, unless there was NO choice.

U guys are awesome..Thanks for the input...My biggest and number 1 factor is that I want that overall "wow factor" and pop...I saw this set in the magnolia show room and it does look very nice....I have always been a Samsung fanboy and this set will be replacing a sammy 63" plasma I bought back in 2007. I have a large living room with an Onkyo 7.2 setup, so I hope that this set will tie in perfectly to my set up...Thanks again fellas!

Expect huge price drop for the 80 inches by then?
That would be nice but I imagine the short supply of the 9 is at least partly intended to keep the 844 priced right about where it's at. I like your idea though.
