Official Sharp AQUOS LC-60LE945U & LC-70LE945U owners thread - Page 10

I saw the new Sharp commerical and the Tvs had a newer design....I am guessing these will be the late 2012 to early 2013 models. Then I read a review online about the 70le945u that showed the Tv with a new design with a Silver bezel. Price was excellent for a 70 inch with local dimming. There could be a good chance these come out....the last few years Sharp has just sprung out models at the end of the year.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Thanks Fastslappy....That is the review I read. When I searched for it on the internet...it said that review was done a few days ago. I had never seen that review before, and I have searched for this model before. WHo knows though....It might be a chance that this particular tv has been scrapped all together. But part of me thinks it could be a chance they scrapped the elite at those rediculous prices...and the elite technology has now been passed on to these local dimming models at at much better price point. Sharp makes great LCDs and is the only company that could do a 80'' local dimming model at a decent price. On my next upgrade my house at max can handle a 75 or maybe a 80 with a very thin bezel. I was looking at that Samsung 75 but I will not pay at that price...So im interested what sharp will do for 2013.

I don't anticipate Sharp rolling over and dying. CES is only 2 months and change away, so I guess we will wait and see. I am trying my hardest to hold off on a purchase of the HX950 until I see what Sharp is planning , but it is getting harder and harder to wait, especially since the football season will be gone and I really want to see football on my next new set

I just read to expect stateside appearance 2 nd quarter 2013.....damn, this looks like it could be just what we are hoping for, no word on its it's full array backlit or not though

Sorry just reread the article, it does say backlit!!!!!! Please Sharp release this thing here in November I am tired of postponing this TV purchase
post #281 of 302
I have hard deadline for this by end of this year.
If no Sharp TV, would go with 65" Sony 950/929 ...
I'm hoping for a miracle ...

actually glad that the 945 is delayed,
I'd be mad mad.gif if I had a 945 & this moth eye model came out . . . .

Perhaps it's just my frustration speaking but it seems to me Sharp is stringing the consumer along. They show the 945 in Jan, claim it will be a product, and here we are nearing the end of the year and we may actually be further away from the 945 becoming a product than we were in Jan. Now it's the Moth-Eye. It wasn't clear to me whether this model will be a full array, local dimming model or something less, with it's primary marketing value being the Moth-Eye screen. But now that our appetite is whet, we're told it's only being launched in Japan (at least for now) with no date (or promise) of a US launch. It's bad enough having to play the "fish or cut bait" game with those products that are already here, but all of these 'virtual promises' coming from Sharp is really messing with my head. It's tough to ignore all the praise being heaped on the Panny VT50, but I'm paranoid of IR and really wanted at least 70". I love the Sony HX950 but it's only 65" and it's at least $2k more than it should be. I can get the Sharp 70C8470U for under $2800 but it clearly doesn't represent the latest and greatest in technologies, and since I don't make these purchases very often I prefer to try to buy close to leading edge, within reason. If Sharp would just be honest with us in terms of what their future plans are, I might be willing to wait. But from where I'm sitting it sure seems like they don't intend to do anything other than dangle carrots in an effort to keep us interested. I've all but lost my faith.

I'm with you on those thoughts
but, what can we do?
Overall LCD TV PQ went down in past 3 years - IMHO
65" Sony 950 has bandings - do you want to play this lottery ?
Is there guaranty that new Sharp will be banding and etc issues free?
What's more - we don't know when Sharp will sale this new TV for real?
I think we're in HD limbo right now. I've been a plasma guy for years but every couple of years I try out a high-end LCD set, secretly hoping to find greener grass on the other side and every time I go crawling back to plasma. I just tried out a Sony 65HX950 and I really wanted to like it, but it just didn't work for us and our home theater room arrangement.

I've since picked up a 65GT50 (a model down from the 65VT50) and even with all plasma's shortcomings, for our needs, it blew away the 950. Of course the fact that it cost less than half of the Sony made matters worse with my latest endeavor with LCD.

I really don't see anything earth shattering on the horizon either. Sure OLED has a lot of potential, but the more I read about it the more I get exposed to the technology's pitfalls and drawbacks. Maybe we'll see something amazing at the upcoming CES, and whatever it is it better not be vaporware.

Of course they also announced the LE945U's last year. lets see if THIS one actually comes out. It's not on their site and I wonder when it is supposed to be available in the USA id at all.

Have waited since 2012 CES for 9 series . . . now it is public that SHARP is in major financial straits (and most likely knew what was coming back in the spring ). . . . .looks like they threw all their eggs into the 70 and 80 inch basket on a hope-and-prayer . . .unfortunately it won't be enough to keep them off the block . . . they (or their technology) will probably be sold and hopefully anyone who has purchased a SHARP set this season will be able to get parts to service them. .... I bet alot of the SHARP representatives are working on updating their resumes over the Thanksgiving Holiday. For me it is back to the drawing board trying to see if there is any thing leaking out from the upcoming 2013 CES show that would make me wait another 3-6 months before I buy.

Please where did you get all of this? Your statements read as if they were based on something other than speculation. If so , please tell me where you found this information. If not please let me know that it is just your speculation. (I admit that I have read similar statements from other AVS members but they have always labeled them as such)

Sharp Corp of Japan has big financial problems. Its bonds are rated as "Junk". Some of their US subsidiaries are making a good profit, however.

Sharp will have to "Partner" with another corporation with deep pockets in order to survive. I guess that the Sharp name will remain, but the "Partner" will demand corporate control. The partner will decide what parts of Sharp to sell off or shut down and what parts to keep.

Sharp is a large supplier of LCD panels. I doubt that market share will be ignored by a "Partner".

Wow. That is the first pricing I have seen for these. Thanks for posting this. Still waiting for the actual product to be seen though. Any ideas as to when these will be at Retail ? Obviously the Summer of 2012 has come and gone ?

Well everyone, this TV might be dead, but we will be hearing from Sharp next week at CES. Let's hope for something positive to come out of them and that we might see a mythical local dimming television.

The glimmer of hope keeping Sharp alive is the fact that Apple might become a major investor in them. Apple wants their new screen technology and the one thing Sharp has going for them is that they are the leaders in LCD innovation.

I M H O yes it is that bad on large panels smile.gif
post #299 of 302
Edge-lit technology works well on my particular 70" set. No unevenness, flashlighting or clouding.
Plenty of people have complained about these issues, so maybe it's the luck of the draw.
Overall black level is decent when the backlight level is kept reasonable.
Full-array sets have their own issues, too...
I just read about the 857 for 2013. I can't tell the difference other than the exterior silver sheel, compared to the 847 series. Its still edge lit without local dimming.
