But the new models being developed this fall (2013 models) will go on sale May 2013...so if technically proven 945s have in fact been designed, they would be going on sale now. I don't see a late 2012 release in the cards....the 945s are a year away. Plus, Sharp has plenty of new models to sell for the remainder of 2012. So, what would you buy now? An 80" 844 full array for $5000 or an edge lit 70" 845(847) for a little over 1/2 that ($2899 at BB) ? Its hard to justify almost double the price. ( actually it is double the price when you consider that the extended warranty(necessity) on the 80" is about $600).

well crap...havent checked this thread for a while, it seems that the 945 may actually go the way of duke nukem...10 years in the making

All Full-array local dimming sets have been canceled.

Vizio 71" XVT3D710CM is rumored to be canceled.

So nothing this year. We are left with Sony XBR and Elite both from last year. Unless you want to go LG, which I refuse cause they don't make anything big enough.

Is there a link making this official? Earlier in the thread (3 weeks ago), someone mentioned they called Sharp and a representative said the 945 is still scheduled for release sometimes late this summer.

I just called Sharp customer support this morning and she checked on the status of the 945 line. It has not been cancelled or postponed until next year. It will still be released later this summer.

Exactly. It seems at least some of this misinformation is coming from the online sellers who want you to buy the Elite from
them now and not wait for the 945. As i said earlier I already called Sharp and it is still scheduled for summer release.

About the the same way I would feel entering an owners thread hoping to get owners feedback only to find out the display doesn't even exist yet.

FWIW, a friend of mine wanted some advice about getting a 60" LCD with Full Array LED backlighting and I thought about the 60LE945U which I think might be perfect for his needs. I fired off an email to Sharp Canada yesterday asking if there are any 60" full array sets available and here's a copy/paste of the email I got back this AM:

Just my opinion, but I think this late in the game (we're almost in July) there should be a definitive go-ahead or cancel plans by now. I think it's safe to assume at this stage that this set will indeed be available later this summer.

Were they planning at 80" also? Damn, been really wanting an 80" Elite or "945".....

Forget the 80'' go rite to the 90'' .......its only $11000.00 full array...with that one i won't even need my spectacles...its on sharp's websight

Man, I hope this is true because I was about to pull the trigger on the 847, but I'd gladly wait for the 945. I owned the 929 from Sony, but disliked the limited number of dimming zones it had as it impacted the picture quite noticeably.

This surprises me. I thought I had read the Elite and the Sony 929 were very close in quality with the edge going to the elite.

The Elite has no real issues with blooming where as the 929 has a fair amount of issues with blooming. It's a beautiful picture, don't get me wrong, but the blooming can get pretty nasty at times. Blooming was not my reason for even returning it actually. Both of the sets I used flashlighting on the bottom left and right corners. It was quite distracting as it never vanished no matter the room lighting conditions. Seemed a bit strange given I wouldn't expect those issues on a local dimming set.

I have an 55 LG LV9500 nano with 2200 led's and 280 zones and it has no blooming. I can't understand why LG did away with the nano! That is when I heard of the 945 and thought I take a look at it! I have the frist local dimming Samsung 81f, but samsung dosn't have any local dimming lcd's.(full backlight)

would you provide number of LED zones in 929 and in Elite?
I can't find reliable info for this mater.
Sales told me 929 has double zones of 909 that has 92.
I'm not even sure about 92 zones number.

It's possibly the 945 is cutting down on cost by reducing the number of dimming zones.

We should know by the end of this summer when the 945 series become available.

Hopefully long before that since they still are maintaining a summer release.

No kidding, I really need to know soon if this is really becoming a reality or if I should just buy a TV now because I need a new one.

I have no official word on the cancellation. It was rumored. This is usually how they cut off a new model. They just go quiet. It is a shame how they show off in CES to gain some publicity for their brand name, and then they even fail to inform fans of their plans (Vizio specially). I have contacted sharp directly by phone and twitter, and all they have said is, "we have no information at the time". CNET has also removed the 945 from their 2012 HDTV chart.

On the other hand, "I have not tried to check with sharp in the past month since I gave up", but I am glad to hear some good news. Because if this model is coming out, I will be all over it.

they must have decided to push ahead with the model causei called a few days ago and its now scheduled for a summer release. its strictly a guess but there might have been some concern that the 945 would cannabilize elite sales.

Another thing to consider is they would definitely want people to know if they planned on delaying or cancelling the 945 series. I'm sure there are quite a number of people on this forum alone who are passing on the Elite to wait for the 945. If they made an official announcement that it was canceled that would push a number of us to go ahead with the Elite.

Personally, the elite is not an option for me. I could afford it, but refuse to pay that much money for a tv. I'd pay 50% more than the 845, but not 2.5 times.
the 945, if it delivers will be an awesome tv, hopefully improving the dark screen uniformity. this is really my only complaint with the set (there is/are motion artifacts like juddering, but I solved that by letting my onkyo 609 upconvert/de-interlace cable to 1080p. I just started my 90 day return window with the 70C8470U. Let's hope it makes it out before the end of september.
