Official Sharp AQUOS LC-60LE745U & LC-70LE745U Owners Thread - Page 9

Thanks for that info, 8trax.

TV came, broken frown.gif

Sharp made me send pictures of the box.

Only damage is from the strap.

It is freaking huge. Shame all it does is flash the power indicator 2x & 5x which means panel damage.

Sharp is replacing it.

You can see the crack to the left of the logo.

Any tricks to getting a picture of the damaged screen?

Any guesses what happened to it?

That is as good as I can get.
Looks like the box took a hit and impacted the screen..
That would have been my first thought but if you look at the picture you can see it is intact (that is the side the front faced, I sent Sharp pictures of all 4 sides)

Sharp said the replacement shipped Wednesday. I finally got tracking yesterday which did not show picked up until late last night. It is coming from less than 400 miles away yet shows an estimate to my local area hub on the 20th.

Assuming it then takes 48 hours to be delivered (what the NVC Logistics tracking page shows) it will be 13 days from when they agreed to replace it. I get it is big and needs special transport but seeing as it was damaged in my opinion going in the box at the factory I feel they should go the extra mile to make it right.

I put it back in the box. The area the damage is would have been almost impossible through the box at all but absolutely impossible without damage to the box.

part of the crack is visible here.

Large buffer zone.

Area of damage is approximately above where it says smart central. The strap was there, that caused the rub damage.

Replacement came & works.

Turned it on (after set up) it found an update & got it.

Sorry for the bad iPhone pictures.

These just came.

It looks much better than the picture. 3D looks cool but the glasses are a hassle.

Troy is on.

This is after a quick calibration with DVE Blu Ray.

Do you want to share your calibrations?
I'll be happy to. I have to go through and notate the values. I'll do it tomorrow morning, I am watching a hockey game and then eating dinner.

GOAL!
This was done on my PS3 with DVE HD basics.

DNR is off.

You've taken a similar tactic by starting with a reddish picture and then backing off the red in the white scale.
I used the 10-point to achieve something similar. I get exceptionally good fleshtones, with 'sunny' highlights and little burn-through.
These are my settings: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1417923/sharp-lc-70le845u-overcoming-the-blues-on-the-70-edge-lit-3d-quattron

I wasn't consciously doing anything. I had the panels up and adjusted until the picture/colors looked good. 10 point is unavailable. anyone know how to make it available?

It's available with the User setting.
I started with Medium Low temperature and removed as much red as I could from it in the 10-point scale to get a clean white.
The very top white is tricky to get 'sunny' highlights that are not greenish or purplish. I think I got it nailed for my set...

10 point is not available on mine in any mode including user on any input.

Do I have to set every input independently?

3d seems very dim no matter what I do. Any ideas on making it brighter?

So far I like 2d much better although 3d looks neat it seems like a parlor trick.

Thanks

Hmmm...my BluRay player is on the second input. It's the one that I run the calibration disc on, of course.
Each preference is for all inputs, I believe. I'm thinking that I misspoke -- I use the Standard instead of User.
I had tried the User, but was unable to access the 10-point consistently from there (I think I did once!).
Standard can be tamed with the settings I listed -- Medium Low and then throttle down the red and boost the green...

You were right. It was standard. Thanks

Anyone watch hockey? The puck looks like there are three of them (jutters) when it moves quickly. I have tried all motion settings. This never happened on my LC-46LE700U.

Does it happen with different broadcasts and programs? Sometimes the problem is at the other end...

I have watched 2 games on it, (my team is 0-2) is it possible for a TV to be a jinx?

I did not notice it on Tuesday, but that was prior to my latest round of calibration.

I'll look for another game today to check if it was last night's feed.

Thanks
Recorded another game (replay) also from last night, also Canadian feed. It was not as bad but still there.

Everything else looks great.
Have you tried the different settings for motion control? Maybe 120 Hz would make a difference?...
Yup. Tried them all. No change.

It is not that bad and if it is the worst issue the set has I can live with it.

WTF with USA HD shows? Suits looks atrocious (always has) as do most of their original content.
Odd. I recently switched from Cox cable and was using HD TiVos to DTV with their HD34, 24 & 25. The 46LE700U was on the 34 which now has the 745.

The 700's are on the 24 & 25 now. USA looks like hell on all of them here.
i had a sync issue with dialog (using ARC) I switched to bitstream and solved it.
A few days ago the set started shutting off on it's own. I verified all power save settings were off/disabled yet it continued. Called Aquos they said there were no other settings and are replacing the set with an 847U.

I am ambivalent because there are none of the common picture issues on the 745. This will be set 3. Every time I have gotten a new Sharp it took 3 sets to get out of warranty.
I just picked up another clearance deal from BB a LC-60LE745U that was an open box for 607.00 out the door. It has a minor scratch on the screen, but hardly noticable when on. Also missing the stand. Otherwise, the TV works like a champ. I'm not sure what other people's experience has been with this set, but if it's worth keeping for the price I paid than I will certainly hold onto it. For the money, it seems to have some great features especially having built in wifi etc. I'm hoping to pick up a stand for it for cheap, but if I keep it I would probably mount it on a wall anyway. Just want a stand for that just in case moment.

I have a 70" Sharp, but really, it's mostly a 55" Sharp. Unless I'm watching an HD program or a DVD, which I rarely do, there are 4 inch black bars across both the top and sides of my screen. I've played around with the aspect ratio, and tried shifting formats from 16x9 to 4x3 (that gets rid of the side bars but makes the top and bottom bars wider). Is there any way, other than only watching HD, to get the picture to actually fill the screen? Oh, and I've tried zoom. That fills the screen, all right, but the picture suffers immensely and isn't worth it.
So, let me see if I understand this right. You purchased a very large high definition flat panel TV which shows 1920x1080 images. However, you are using 720x480 video with it. That signal is 1/6th the resolution that the TV is capable of displaying.

Then you are wondering why there are black bars on the top and the bottom as well as the sides? Well, the side bars are because you are using 720x480 4:3 image. The top and bottom bars are because the broadcaster only sends widescreen out and so they put the top and bottom bars into their 4:3 picture, reducing the effective resolution even further (probably now 1/8th of 1920x1080).

Then you are wondering with 1/8th the resolution, why the standard definition picture looks bad when you zoom it to the full 70" screen?

Bottom line is that you basically wasted a lot of money on an HDTV that is more than you need or can presently use.

Something tells me you would be happier with a used 4:3 standard definition TV. Maybe you could trade with a neighbor? You would probably be happier with the picture since the TV and the signal would match.

Really in all seriousness, if you want to enjoy the large HDTV you'll have to start sending it high definition video. Even DVD won't cut-it (try Blu-Ray). That is a very large flat panel and when you get something that large, the old signals just won't really work well anymore. You spent a lot of money on the HDTV. Why not use it properly?

I'm very curious why you purchased the TV? It just makes no sense to me.

What are you watching? Isn't there a setting in the TV that makes it fill at least one of the two dimensions? 'Auto-Size' or something...
