Official Sharp AQUOS LC-60LE847U & LC-70LE847U Owners Thread - Page 37

The cable box is set to 1080i, i.e. I'm forcing it to output that resolution. Might that be an/the issue? Now that I think about it, I'm not sure what they (comcast) are outputting. in the old days, it depended. Over the air, fox output 480p, CBS output 1080i and ABC output 720p, if memory served.

I'll go back and test the box set to output "auto". I remember that was how it came from comcast.

Best,
jeff

Just picked up my 60LE845U on Saturday from Best Buy (last one in town!) after doing research and reading this forum. I couldn't pass up the sale price and size. I have a 52" sony bravia upstairs, so this one is for downstairs living room. I used to have a 32" Aquos 1080p set (sold it to my friend), and it is still working great after 5 yrs. So I am hoping that reliability can be found in this model also.

Thanks all for the info provided. I am happy with my choice, except the clouding on dark screens. But sounds like that is just common in most all edge lit LED displays. I am thinking I may exchange it for another once they get more in stock. I tweaked my settings and have a sound bar hooked up, never knew what ARC was until now....works pretty sweet when I watch netflix it plays through speakers via the HDMI. Netflix looks really good, my friend thought I was watching a blu ray.

It was my first time checking out 3D on a home TV, and it looked damn good on Underworld Awakening (which I saw in theaters in 3D). Did a little research on 3D, and I thought it had a very clean picture and no ghosting. I am not sure what this juddering is that everyone talks about. I get a very clean picture from Directv and my blu ray player. Maybe it is the source that is causing the juddering and not the TV. I keep mine on Film Mode OFF, Motion 120 hz low.

looks like newer models like 640 don't have much clouding.

Hello All,

I had to purchase a new TV to replace my 67" Samsung DLP that was failing. I went with the new Sharp series 8 LC-70LE847U 3D display. After several days of tweaking I am satisfied with the picture completely.

Since this is a 3D TV I have decided to upgrade my receiver (Currently an Onkyo TX-SR806) and my Blu Ray player to move completely to the 3d World and enjoy the other new features that I can get on upgrading both.

While doing research I have hit a major stumbling block. My household has become CRAZY for streaming (I burn about 200GB a month through my Comcast account and most of it is streaming.) Therefore I would like devices that allow me to stream the latest and greatest at the highest resolution posible. ......

My snag is VUDU. Our brand new TV has VUDU but not 3D Vudu, nor does the optical output of the TV support discrete audio. We love the VUDU service but cannot find reliable info on Blu Ray Players or possibly a receiver that will support VUDU 3D and do it at 1080P I have been told the Panasonic BDP220,320 and 500 will do it but want to be sure and am looking for other options too. As for receivers; The waters are even more murky.

My questions (and what I am asking for help on) are simple:

1. Does anyone know and recommend a 3D Blu Ray Player that supports VUDU 3D and do it at 1080P?
2. How about a receiver that does the same?
3. Lastly, If I can find a 3D Blu Ray player that does what I need, does anyone reccomend a receiver similar to the one I have that is 3D compatable? I love my current receiver but have seen A LOT of innovations in the market since I bought it.

(This is a cross post. I also posted this in the 3D source section but wanted the owners of my TV to chime in too.)

Thanks in advance!

myoda,

Thanks for posting your 3d settings. Can you provide the group your movie and regular day settings as well? The picture of your TV looked very nice.

Thanks

you might check the bdt 500 from panasonic. It's rumored to stream 3D from VUDU.

Yeah and the 847's dont have clouding, I just picked up two more 847's two days a go and no clouding at all. Costco rocks!!!

You will have to check the spec on the BD player to see if it supports 3D. I have 2 WD TV Live Hubs that supports 3D streaming at 1080p 24hz with Dolby Digital Plus to my 847.

I think people are just getting lucky with the no clouding, I don't think it is model specific whether it has it or not. I took back my 845U last night for another one. And the second one is a lot better. I can live with it, but it sucks that my 4 yr old LCD has no clouding. If this 2nd 845U gets worse or I can't stand it, I may exchange for a SONY HX850 once BB gets some in stock, I just hate to downsize from a 60" to 55".

I got my Bias Lights installed and programmed to my Harmony One. Interesting that they show up purple in the photo when actually set to white with a hint of blue. The dimable spotlights above/behind still function and also programed to the Harmony.

Sorry to hear that. Ouch that must hurt. confused.gif

Re Clouding

Well I had the 70LC640 (Costco version), twice returned because of stuck pixels. I decided to get the 60" 8470 from costco. No Stuck pixels, but I do have clouding, but so far not noticeable when with actual content. I am tired of returning sets, so I think this will be a keeper. The color emphasis seems more balanced than on the 6400 as well.

Second one is better and doesn't show in actual content. I may return it for the 80" 633 and give up 3D.

My second 60845U now has noticeable clouding....at first it seemed better than my first. It's great when screen isn't black....not sure to keep it or not. I have a question (noob)....

So this clouding/bleeding....that is present ALL the time correct? Like when viewing any type of picture bright colors or dark. Or is it just when screen gets dark that the clouding will pop up? Because it sure isn't visible on normal daytime colorful scenes.
Correct. It is always there, just not always visible to the naked eye.

The clouding on mine has improved (decreased in visibility) slightly as it has aged. I suspected this would be the case.

What exactly is the difference between av mode PC and av mode Game? Does it have to do with color space when using a pc? Is game mode for console games and pc for pc games?
I haven't touched PC mode despite running almost exclusively thru a HTPC. I calibrate the display thru standalone Bluray player and then calibrate the PC video card to return it to spec.

I know Game mode is locked into expanded gamut and bypasses a lot of the lag-inducing video processing circuits. It is noticably faster than the ISF modes.

Did everyone try to update the software from a USB and not from the ethernet. This make a difference for me regarding clouding. When I updated my TV from the ethernet it had some clouding, nit much, however when I updated from my USB, my clouding was all cleared up 100%. During dark scenes, even credit scrolling show no clouding at all. I am very impressed with this TV.
My TV said it is up to date....what is the latest update name/number? Maybe I need to use USB instead?
I am running the 60LE847U along with a late-2010 Mac Mini running Plex and I've had the TV only a couple of days.

Something interesting I noticed last night about the judder. When I use Movie mode with CGGorman's calibration settings, I notice a considerable amount of judder - especially with movement across the screen. However, when I use CGGorman's settings for Game mode, with the exact same setup and no other settings changed, I noticed absolutely no judder.

What is the difference between these two modes that would eliminate the judder?
Game mode defeats the motion enhancement features. I can't think of any other reason.

I said no. Then he billed my credit card for $500.00 more. The 2% on the website you dont get off. What a sham. It lets you add it to the cart even if you use credit card. If it was not valid them why have it add to my credit card. He called and wanted a check or cash, yeah right, are you crazy? So he can not claim this on taxes. What a lier. Bad business people. They are total scammers that I am blogging them. He is a smooth fast talking scammer. I am filing a complaint with my credit card.

Im glad you didn't fall for it, I almost ordered a tv from them but I didn't

A new wave of 70" 847s arrived in country at the first of the month. Anyone taken a look at any of these to check for clouding or other issues?

These are the exact same as the other shipment from last month and the month before. So what is so special about next month's shipment? I called Sharp and they told me nothing is any different from the first release of the 847's, He quote exactly "The 847's that we ship month to month have not changed in designed or any fixes in place from the first released 847 in May of 2012. We have not made any changes at all." I asked about clouding, he stated to me "Clouding has not yet been addressed on any of our models, the only non-clouding TV's are the Elite's."

Hope this helps.

I picked up the Sharp Lc-60LE640U bout a week ago. I like it, but feel i should spend the extra money and get the 845 240hz model. Just like most people, i'm second guessing my purchase. Anyone have any experience with the 845 compared to the 640? Thanks

240Hz is not going to give much advantage over 120Hz and you most likely already disabled even 120Hz on your 640. 4th yellow pixel is completely unnecessary as well and you can do just fine without it. The only 'real' difference would be 3D capability in 845 and most people don't care about since there is not much you can watch in 3D on regular bases.
Ok, cool. You are correct, i'm not interested in the 3D capabilities of the TV. What do you mean i most likely already disabled 120hz? Not sure i follow

You'll have more motion blur with 120Hz enabled and it will make watching sports unbearable. Generally you will have better viewing experience when disable all extra video processing like film mode, noise reduction, 120 Hz either turn it off or set it to low. Go to 640/6400 thread for further info. BTW your 60le640 should have much better screen uniformity and no clouding comparing to 845-847.
